Gee, do you think they actually did any of that? Keeping the records safe and information safe? I don't think so. Unless some IT person ran to the school Friday night to save the records...

I thought this might be an issue. In our Florida county, the school board is a separate body from the county commissioners and neither has authority over the other. How much do you want to bet that someone from the New Orleans school dept said NO, you can't have the buses?

It is our interest to get buses and other vehicles that we may own out of the City in the event it is being evacuated. So those buses should not be empty.

DUH

Great find!

New Orleans --- The Big Sleazy. They seem to take their time down in New Orleans. They've been trying for 5 years to figure out whether to privatize their Sewerage and Water System.

BTW New Orleans has had a corrupt Sewerage and Water Board.

WWW.USDOJ.GOV: WASTEWATER TREATMENT COMPANY PLEADS GUILTY TO BRIBERY

Payoffs involved in S&WB process, feds say. Executive accused of taking kickbacks,

Makes me think Blanco didn't want the Feds to be snooping around her state, because they might find some muck on her, too.

.....If a hurricane should come to the City in order to save the school buses, those assets, the City had asked if we would loan the school buses to be utilized for those persons in New Orleans. A lot of the citizens of New Orleans do not have transportation and have no way of evacuating from the City if a hurricane should come this way. He had been talking with Dr. Kevin Stephens from the Health Department because the Red Cross said that they would not commit to opening any shelters in the City of New Orleans if a hurricane comes this way. It would be all for naught. They wanted to utilize school buses in order to transport those persons out of the City....

great find, angkor.

ping to you, sl and bq....minutes from a June 2005 meeting on hurricane preparedness.

Great find. Google or someone is busy erasing and getting rid of this link.

I tried twice to copy the section re Hurricanes and School Buses.

Each time my computer locked up on me saying the site was gone.

I couldn't find it on Yahoo Search.

Hopefully some can find on way back or whatever and post that section with the printer commands.

Mrs. Landrieu: Ms. Bowers, please also include in here fuel preparations.

They even had fuel preparations for the buses that were never used.

It looks like Mrs. Cade dropped the ball. Who is Mrs. Cade? Do we know anything else about her other than that she is a School Board Member?

Mrs. Landrieu: I just wanted to remind you that if we are going to include buses, which are not part of this plan, then we need to include the personnel and communication with personnel.

Proof that the implementation aspect of the evacuation of the carless was NOT in place, at least as of June, and that Senator Landrieu was well aware of this shortcoming. "If Mr. Bill was aware,..."

1. Any way these minutes can be routed to Major Garrett at Fox News? This certainly ties into the Red Cross/Access Denied to Superdome story he's looking into. Doesn't Tony Snow have a FR account?

2. Is the Landrieu mentioned in the minutes here any relation to the Lt. Gov and the Senator Landrieu? If so, wow.

3. Amazing Find. Bravo Zulu.

Howlin, I hope I'm remembering correctly that you had found maybe another area where school buses were....aside from the one picture of the buses which floated around quite a bit on various threads (no pun intended!). Anyhow, thought you'd find this interesting. (if I'm wrong...ignore this!)

Minutes from a June 2005 Orleans Parish school board meeting show that the city and school district have been wrangling over a plan to use school buses for hurricane evacuations for some time. The minutes have been archived here.
http://home.comcast.net/~ashley_tate/bmin060905.htmhttp://home.comcast.net/~ashley_tate/bmin060905.htm Thanks to Bilges Blogspot. http://bilges.blogspot.com/2005/09/painfully-right-on-buses.html The buses may sit waterlogged instead of having been used to ferry people from the city because no one knew who's budget would be billed for driver time or fuel costs; or there weren't any licensed bus drivers available; or someone was worried about insurance liability or security for the drivers or some other simple consideration that wasn't detailed finely enough in the evacuation plan.
