HOUSTON, Texas (CNN) -- Former President Bill Clinton on Monday said the government "failed" the thousands of people who lived in coastal communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina, and said a federal investigation was warranted in due time.

He's right. The LA State Gov't did fail the people of NO.
and People failed to evacuate as ordered.
He's right, the government did fail the people. And, as President for eight years (1993-2001), he is part of that failure.
The people failed the people when they started raping and killing them and leaving the sick and infirm to die.
I saw that interview and as I recall he was placing most blame on local and state governments..the CNN headline makes it look like he was blasting Bush, but I don't think that was the case..
Well I say all government workers should just go home now.
Spot on, Cigar Boy.
I'm afraid Mississippi and Alabama are on the back burner news-wise because of new orleans..those states have major problems also but it's not being publicized..
It's beginning to look like Nagin and Blanco and their cronies can't read. Otherwise Nagin and Blanco would have been aware, I imagine, of this study which shows that poorer people do not move out of a hurricane's path as often as people of means do, and special steps need to be taken to protect them.
Citizen Hurricane Evacuation Behavior in Southeastern Louisiana: A Twelve Parish Survey
Released by The Southeast Louisiana Hurricane Taskforce, July 2005.
The study concluded (page 6) that
The number of low income residents who remain in harms way illustrates the need for both
education about the need to travel far enough1
and
providing evacuation assistance to those without means2
1. I don't think Nagin emphatically told his poorer constituents that they needed to evacuate at a distance, to high land, rather than take shelter in a friend's "stronger" home.
2. I know I don't have to ask if Nagin sent buses to evacuate his poorer constituents.
All this talk about investigations are going to go away as they realize what a real investigation would uncover...lots of turf wars and bad decisions in Louisiana....by democrats. Can't have that come to the surface, now can they?
Yeah, the government failed the people when it sold nuclear secrets to China and ignored a growing threat of terrorism and Al Quaeda.
Who was president when that happened? Hm...
The United States deployed 40,000 troops into the area with equipment and provision for an entire city. The troops and equipment had to move into an area the size of Great Britain that was ravaged by hurricane, with land operations obstructed by debrist. They secured the city and evacuated it, then they fixed the levees. This was done in less than one week! They deserve our gratitude, not Bill Clinton's condemnation. He is such a putz.
Indeed.
I don't buy, "they didn't have cars."
I'll bet the ranch, anytime they wanted to go & visit Aunt Mabel in FL, or wherever, they knew how to get on a bus, at a moment's notice.
Bill Clinton should know better than to make these kinds of remarks. He also should thank his lucky stars (Marxists ones) that the public isn't aware of what he himself DID NOT DO when he was in charge. If they did, he would be ran out of town on a rail so to speak.
I remember when Slick Willie was saying he had a 5.6 Trillion Dollar Surplus. Why didn't he make the levees able to withstand a Cat 5 hurricane during his 8 unglorious years as POTUS?
Ah....the Blue State Boogie Blues.....I got it
You ought to know, Bill...you helped.
