We deserve answers, Mr. President (Scarborough Turns on Bush)
MSNBC ^ | 9/5/05 | Joe Scarborough

Posted on 09/05/2005 10:26:53 AM PDT by nj26

As one who has seen these hurricanes up close as a Gulf Coast resident, news reporter and member of Congress — where I got a behind the scenes look at how to run relief operations — I have been trying to connect the dots for those of you who have not been so intimately involved in hurricane recovery efforts.

With so many trying to figure out why so few acted professionally in the first days of this epic crisis, I offer an insider's view of who is to blame for this national disgrace.

We begin with Harry Truman who famously declared that the buck always stops at the president's desk. For those who now define the term conservative as unwavering support for George W. Bush, even this suggestion is maddening.

But the bottom line is that despite the fact the president was strapped with two governors who bungled this crisis badly, in the end it is the president who sends in the National Guard and FEMA relief.

The president's suggestion that the size of this storm caught all by surprise just doesn't get it. His administration was 48 hours late sending in the National Guard and poor Americans got raped and killed because of those mistakes....

Secondly, the first responders in any hurricane are local and state officials. When Florida was struck by four hurricanes last year, Governor Jeb Bush was nothing short of spectacular. Louisiana Governor Blanco was breathtakingly clueless as were other Louisiana officials. The deaths of many lay on their doorsteps.

FEMA’s Michael Brown also shoulders the burden for the suffering in New Orleans. His claim that no one knew of the suffering on the ground until Thursday defies logic. America knew the crescent city was drifting toward chaos on well before Tuesday....

Have you ever noticed that every MSNBC promo is about a new show telling how great the show will be?

You know, Joe, you had a pretty big microphone on August 26,2005, Scarborough Country. Oh, yea, I forgot, you were in Pensacola getting ready for the storm to hit where the National Hurricane officials said it would originally hit. But all week long you were broadcasting. I did not hear you scream to the top of your lungs to evacuate. Not once. I expect you know hurricanes better than Bush. But you said and did nothing, except prepare your home for the hurricane. Joe, you let your listeners down. You knew that the destruction would be unpresidented, but you said nothing.

Damn these Monday morning quarterback who indict Bush without any facts.

If we can't blame the media for encouraging the unrest in Iraq, then we can't blame the President for people RAPING and PILLAGING in New Orleans.

The blame lies with those committing the crimes. They took advantage of the situation and for days the media and pundits tried to claim that they did these things for survival.

" Well, he has to play to MSNBC's tiny, leftist viewing audience. Ever notice that the talking heads that play the conservative on MSNBC are always Bush haters. So you have a Bush-hater debating a Bush hater "

Nailed it. Then PMSNBC audience = The Err America audience. The Leftist "Nation" magazine even advertises on PMSNBC. So even the token PMSNBC 'Conservatives' tow the Chris Matthews Bush bashing line.

At least in a crisis we see who the girly men are, very, very, very, sophomoric.

What's that old saying? With friends like these...?

Yeah, but if the truth be told, Scarborough sold out months ago. He hopped on the Iraq Express to gain affirmation from his media goombahs and maybe job security, who knows.

Apparently, Scarborough is clairvoyant. I wonder why he kept to himself all that transpired until after the fact. I recall on Monday hearing news stories that New Orleans had dodged a bullet. It wasn't until Tuesday that the Lake Ponchartrain levee broke, and that was the event that proved bullets can indeed shoot around corners. Where was Scarborough on Monday afternoon? He should have been demanding all branches of the military get to New Orleans and right now. He should have been begging though hysteria that the people of New Orleans get out and right now.

Help started to arrive on Monday. I guess it was people and equipment that were lost and just happened to stop in New Orleans to get bearings. Help continued on Tuesday and built from there until now. Scarborough must have missed that aspect of it.

I supposed Bush could suspend the law and send in the military from the beginning. And, it might help in such events to have one guy in charge. Yet if Bush assumed duties not his own, I guaranty Scarborough would be among the loudest complainers. Amazing how clear hindsight is, even for a clairvoyant.

Help started from the first hour, despite the problems, and built to a crescendo by late Saturday. In such a disaster, that's the blink of an eye. Could Scarborough and other critics please tell me how he would have done it faster. ?

This loser wasn't a success as a practising attorney, as a representative to the U.S. Congress and as a "Talk Show" host for PMSNBC.

Look, I'm sick and tired of this crap. I hope MSNBC goes out of business, and it seems like it's well on it's way. I find it odd that Scarborough can't find the least bit to fault with the New Orleans government or the State of Louisiana. And I also find it odd that Bush is being blamed for a hurricane and the failure of the levees. This is the first time in anyone's memory that the President has been blamed for a natural disaster.
