(CNN) -- The Supreme Court released statements by seven Supreme Court justices who paid tribute to Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, who died Saturday. A statement from Justice David Souter is not expected, the court said.
Justice John Paul Stevens:
"William Rehnquist's independent, impartial and dedicated leadership of the Supreme Court has been an inspiration to those of us privileged to serve with him -- and to the entire nation as well. Charles Evans Hughes, a great chief justice whom he particularly admired, would have been proud of the example he set as the leader of the court.
"He was truly the first among equals in discharging his judicial duties in a prompt, scholarly and fair manner. He was a good friend, maintaining his sense of humor and proportion throughout the difficult period that marked his most recent service. We shall miss him."

Souter is a cipher.
i dont understand the young liberal thinking as i have been brought up and continue to live a conservative life...but its kinda hard out here in southern cali...luckily im still close to orange county
Is the pope German?
CA???????? My goodness young man, emigrate ASAP. Ahnuld will have a posse out looking for you if he finds out you are a red eyed conservative.
Well he still lives with mommy
no...i think the teachers union is already on my heals...arnold has my back out here...its just being spun differently in the MSM
Might be it.
I'm with you. I have no particular personal interest in Souter's private lifestyle except as it relates to or influences Supreme Court Decisions that affect the nation as a whole.
I admit to being a little upset with the part Souter played in the SCOTUS decision making it easier for privateers to wrest prime properties from homeowners using the excuse that it will benefit the public.
Should Logan Darrow Clements succeed in taking Souter's property to build the Lost Liberty Hotel, the turnabout would teach the Court a lesson. Imagine a SC justice losing his property by his own ruling. Fat chance, though, the Weare, NH licensing board is protecting Souter and will never issue the necessary permits - but the idea is certainly interesting.
He hates conservatives no doubt .
When Souter was appointed, it would have been nice to have known what his views were on holding private property. I doubt he would have been confirmed.
The place is a dump, how can anyone with that much money live there .It looks like it should be condemned .
You may get your wish!
If memory serves correctly there were many unanswered questions about Souter's views before he was confirmed. I recall having misgivings myself, at the time.
At the risk of being un-PC... Souter is a 'tard.
On a collegial court, Souter's failure to issue any sort of statement is an expression of bitterness at Rehnquist. The causes are no doubt many and deeply felt. Souter has injured his standing with his colleagues and marked himself as a surly outsider.
LOL, we understand perfectly how you think.
He is a dim & many of them r
