U.S. commercial air carriers continue transporting tens of thousands of evacuees from the New Orleans airport to destinations throughout the nation.

Rooftop air rescue efforts continue. One rescue chopper crashed late today. Crew members are reported safe. Gunmen who fired upon bridge repair contractors were killed by law enforcement.

To date, an estimated 70 countries and U.S. businesses have pledged hundreds of millions of dollars, supplies, food and equipment to assist the United States' efforts in Katrina's aftermath. Lt. General Honore described the damage to Mississippi today, "all infrastructure south of Jackson, MS is either damaged or destroyed." Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice visited the devastated areas, and attended Sunday church services in Mobile, Alabama.

Elsewhere, Sean Penn's rescue boat, sans plug and full of his personal entourage, reportedly sank during launch in New Orleans. Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) threatened to punch President Bush, and Jefferson Parish President Broussard decried that the bureaucracy of FEMA has committed murder.

Streaming Video:

All information is subject to change. Many stations are relying on their corporate parents to configure and maintain Internet streaming. Because of the intense interest in the feeds, they may be unavailable at times because of network congestion or a problem feeding the video to the streaming servers.

WWL-TV New Orleans - WWL-TV is operating from studios at Louisiana Public Broadcasting. CBS has a relay during the morning and afternoon. When available, use the CBS relay first as they have greater streaming capacity. They have a secondary stream from Yahoo. WWL-TV is also offering a special low-bandwidth audio-only stream for dial-up users.

WDSU-TV New Orleans - The news staff has started to return to temporary news studios near New Orleans. However, expect evening coverage from Hearst-Argyle sister stations WAPT Jackson and WESH Orlando when the New Orleans staff needs to take a break.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

WKRG-TV Mobile, AL - This station is providing good coverage of the situation to the east in Mississippi and Alabama. However, the station is now signing off at around 10:30pm CDT like WWL and WPMI.

WJTV-TV Jackson, MS - The CBS affiliate in Jackson is providing live coverage for both the Jackson area and south Mississippi (knowing a lot of media in that area is off the air).

WFAA-TV Dallas, TX - WFAA-TV is here because Dallas is one of the evacuation cities.

United Radio From New Orleans: WWL-AM, WNOE-FM, "KISS-FM," WRNO-FM, WYLD-FM, and WJBO-AM (Clear Channel & Entercom) who have joined forces as United Radio From New Orleans, and they are streaming.

Gulf Coast Storm Network (Clear Channel Radio) - Clear Channel offers radio listeners across the gulf coast access to a simulcast emergency radio service. This service seems primarily focused on Alabama and Mississippi, but does cover Louisiana to some degree.

"Landrieu threatened to 'punch' Bush if he tried to blame the locals."

Which he never, never once, has come close to doing. She is a disgusting human being.

In other news, I heard Ellis Henican say that we really can't depend on the local officials to respond in a disaster like this, because they've lost their families and homes also. He said it's all the Fed's job.

OH, there will be a Congressional investigation, just like there was for 9/11....

BUT, you can bet that people like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and others will INSIST on a 9/11 type commission, because they will charge that there will too much CYA in a congressional one or something.

I may be wrong, I am a lot of times...but I really think someone will call for a "independent" Commission.

Gingrich now "expanding" his critique to include local and state government, but still saying the federal government wasn't able to get assets in there within 24 hours.

U.S. 98 highway bridge over Mobile River. Crosses up near where paper mills are. About 3 miles above Wallace (1-10) tunnel.

I'm not sure and have no experience w this - I suspect there's at least 1 FReeper out there who knows. It seems to me that the Fed Gov't should at least have control over the foreign funds that have been donated and the $s - Katrina Governors's Fund that GWHB and Bubba are working on.
I also think that before $.01 goes out of any fund, there needs to be a detailed plan and the GAO or some auditing team needs to get detailed receipts and account for every penny spent. There also need to be detailed RFPs for all work proposed and whichever companies win the proposals need to sign a contract w a limited contingency fund and limited overrages - we don't need any Big Digs down south.

Newt's talking point is: all three levels of government, both parties, equally at fault.

Gosh almighty.

The LEFT makes the most low-down, outrageous charges, wall-to-wall on every newscast and every news venue. Then WE---Republicans---reply with, "That is wrong---it is EVERYONE's fault. Ours too."

WHY do we placate and equivocate and bend over and cowtow to the left!???

Fox just had on Col. Cowan, who I have always respected, but he just said he "doesn't know why the FEDS drug their feet and didn't get in there fast enough"...

I think he needs to talk to the Admiral I referenced earlier, and others that have been on record in the military, that have said they WERE on notice and doing what they could...

I would have thought better of Cowan.

A New Orleans problem before the hurricane.

However, the announcement was immediately overshadowed by a barrage of criticism and attacks from a local Jewish rabbi, a Catholic priest and the president of the Police Association of New Orleans (PANO). The opposition was based on Capt. Dennis’ affiliation with the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam.

Typical.

Newt slaps the President but doesn't want to go after someone advocating violence to the president? Reminds me of McCain, only I think McCain has more sense then Newt. And I'm far from McCain's biggest fan.

It's a reflex among most pilots. However, I suspect the FAA isn't going to care a whole lot about this one under the circumstances. They will probably send someone out to look at the wreckage eventually (if it's still there when they get around to it.) Right now, the FAA is busy signing waivers for area operations, re-establishing air traffic control, and helping out in any way they can.

I find it quite amazing how understanding the three-letter-agencies have become in the wake of this.
