"When he arrived at the Astrodome about 10 p.m. Wednesday, 20-year-old Jabbar Gibson modestly confessed that he had commandeered a school bus in New Orleans, then picked up about 70 passengers before heading out for the 13-hour trek to Houston." <!-- DIV.b2 { margin: .75em 0px; } -->

New Orleans public transit buses:
Count 'em and weep...

He's the only one not elected, yet
he's a "take charge guy."
He's only 18. He told Greta that.
You'll see that my post included the phrase, "whatever he might be inclined to pursue." Do we agree, or disagree?
Jabbar Gibson for Mayor Of New Orleans
Some pics of NOLA and other areas. Some very graphic. http://news.yahoo.com/photos/ss/events/ts/080304tropicalweathe
"Parish school buses head back unused"
Good find UPcrawfish!!!!
From what I understand, some buses don't have synchronizing gears and thus require the driver to rev the engine to the right speed and unclutch briefly before going into gear.
The kid just did, and to his credit, exactly what any thinking person without other available transportation would have done.
Too bad his moron of a Mayor couldn't think of the same thing. Guess he was too busy flushing crack and moving his assets to offshore accounts.
Nagin will likely want to prosecute.
I haven't heard any praises coming from Nagin on this.
Outstandingly magnificent quote from Gunny Hiway
Mr. Gibson not only saved 70 or so people from drowning and despair, he saved a bus too! Maybe the city of New Orleans should officially deed this bus over to Mr. Gibson.
I'd like to see it in the hands of a historical society.
Wow, if the media was honest, Nagin and Blanco would be so toast. I have faith that both are finished, but the truth will take awhile to get out NATIONALLY. Locally in Louisiana, they will get what they deserve.
.....Count 'em and weep....
I counted 415 buses . Are the ones in the second photo busses?
415 x 50 = 20750
415 x 75 = 31125
Two trips/bus would have made a big difference.
It was also the Governor's responsibility. When Hurricane Dennis was threatening Louisiana and Jeff parrish President Broussard started to tell everyone to evacuate--even though the storm wasn't even a fart in the Gulf, she said it was her job "to manage an evacuation."
So Kathleen Blank Stare--did you see her fumbling, embarrassing appearance on Larry King last night-- knew it was her job to evacuate the affected areas and she didn't implement the evac part of the state's disaster plan. She and Nagin and Mitchy Landrieu fell down on the job. They are all political roadkill.
Anyone who didn't "go where the money is", i.e. studied Literature, for example, can tell you about the disapproving frown from Uncle Dave, the accountant.
I doubt that you were looking for an argument, though, so I'll say that I see your point and that we agree.
BTW, where'd you learn to ax that question?
"(As long as you don't shoot more bureaucrats and politicians than is reasonable and proper.)"
OK - I'll bite. What is the 'bag limit' on inactive, shirking their duty, irresponsible politicians and bureaucrats that only act for political gain, during an emergency evacuation? My guess = ALL OF THEM! NO LIMIT! Sounds reasonable and proper to me!
Jabbar for Mayor
Are the ones in the second photo buses?
Those are RTA buses, the transit authority down there. Depending on the size, they can probably carry 35-40 people.
cuffed? others arrested for stealing cars to get out while ragin Nagin and whats her face didnt deploy buses at their disposal?? As I said, they should be hiding in fear, not mouthing off
Give this kid a job, make sure he gets a proper education, he's a future leader.
