Kuwait Pledges $500M for Hurricane Relief Updated: Sunday, Sep. 4, 2005 - 11:26 AM

KUWAIT CITY (AP) - The oil-rich Persian Gulf state of Kuwait said Sunday it will donate $500 million in aid to U.S. relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina.

The offer is the largest known put forward since the hurricane ravaged Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama and follows a $100 million aid donation from the emir of a Mideast neighbor, Qatar.

Kuwait's energy minister said his country would provide "oil products that the disaster-stricken states need in addition to other humanitarian aid."

"It's our duty as Kuwaitis to stand by our friends to lighten the humanitarian misery and as a payback for the many situations during which Washington helped us through the significant relations between the two friendly countries," Sheik Ahmed Fahd Al Ahmed Al Sabah said in a statement carried by Kuwait's official news agency, KUNA.

Kuwait is one of America's closest Mideast allies and owes its 1991 liberation from Iraqi occupation forces to a U.S.-led coalition that drove Saddam Hussein's army out.

Kuwait and Qatar's donations came as the Egypt-based 22-member Arab League called on Arab nations to provide relief to the U.S.

The Arab League said that its secretary-general, Amr Moussa, sent a cable of "deep condolences and regret to the U.S. administration over the effect of Hurricane Katrina ... and called on all Arab countries to extend aid to the United States to face the exceptional humane circumstances."

600 tents and 1,000 cots. LOL!

Oh, and we will also send rescue teams, and send you 92,000 barrels of oil per day from our strategic oil reserves...do the math yourself.

How, exactly, is that bad?

Thailand has donated per WWL, I don't know how much or what. Remember, the Thai lost entire *islands* in the tsunami. However, they appear to have stepped up to the plate and given what they can.

The tiny donations from Sri Lanka and Thailand mean a lot more than some meaningless bloc of platitudes from Germany or France.

I don't see too many illegal aliens among the refugees. Most of the legal and illegal Hondurans in NOLA got out along with the white folk and the better-off black folk. Didn't see any Hondurans rioting either.

Well bucko, I guess $500,000,000.00 dollars the Kuwatis have given must be chump change to you? How much have your heroes sKerry and George Soros given, maybe you can talk to Teresa to see if she can anti up a bottle of ketchup hey?

How many millions have you personally given?

Kuwait or not, a helping hand in need, is a helping hand indeed. You are proof once again that ingrates are all of the same stripe.

Well, "bucko", since you ask me, I think these 500 millions dollars in oil rebate are a mighty generous gift from Kuwait.

As for the rest of your post, "bucko", you just have no idea who my personal heroes are. Basically, you don't have the slightest idea of who I am, or of what I think.

Sorry to disappoint you, "bucko", but throwing catchy names such as "Soros" and "Kerry" won't get you anywhere when talking to me...

"Kuwaiti Official: Katrina is a Wind of Torment and Evil from Allah Sent to This American Empire"

Post 9/11 Rudi Giuliani refused Saudi money coming with attached messages far less severe.

Let Kuwait and the Arab Cartel lower oil prices from the $70 a barrel when production cost is $5 if they want to show they care.

Let them publicly censure the Kuwaiti official who made those disgusting comments.

They do one thing in public and another in Arabic. Old story in the Muslim world.

I believe that the official in question is currently seeking other employment.

That was your "flight of boulders" ? Saying "kerry' and "soros" like it has some magical power ?

I don't think he was fired/let go. At least I could find no news on the subject.

Do you have a link?

The Arab world does not expect the rest of the world to be listening to what they say in Arabic. And they are right. We don't. But we should.

Not only that but, didn't they say that if you were currently employed at a Wal-Mart that had to close due to Katrina, you would have a job somewhere else at another Wal-Mart too?

Thanks. Agreed. I saw that Thailand stepped up after I posted my rant. My feelings are clouded by an intensely personal animosity that really has nothing to do with the Thai people as a whole and I see that it was inappropriate, unfeeling did I say inappropriate. Can I still hate the French?
