Sen. Mary Landrieu threatened the president of the United States with physical violence on Sunday, saying that if he or any other government official criticizes New Orleans police for failing to keep civil order in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina - "I might likely have to punch him - literally."
"If one person criticizes [our sheriffs], or says one more thing, including the president of the United States, he will hear from me - one more word about it after this show airs and I - I might likely have to punch him - literally," Landrieu railed on "ABC's "This Week."
It is illegal to threaten the president with physical violence.
The Louisiana Democrat blasted Bush for neglecting the New Orleans levees, and demanded that he stop using the disaster for "photo-ops."
"The president came here yesterday for a photo-op," Landrieu charged, while surveying the disaster scene via helicopter with "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos in tow. "He got his photo-op but we are never going to get this fixed if he does not send us help now."
Landrieu also blamed Bush for cutting funding for levee improvement, before bursting into tears on camera.
In recent days, Louisiana officials have been criticized for bungling evacuation and rescue efforts. One of those officials, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, is Sen. Landrieu's brother.

Is there an article or post that lays out the timeline of how NO officials screwed up?

Since the state and local governments "richly deserve" criticism, why not dish it out? In politics, a defensive crouch is often taken as an admission of guilt and an above-the-fray pose commonly appears to be an arrogant detachment from public opinion; and in a crisis, an everything-is-going-well attitude can convey a lack of care and attention. So far, we have seen all three from the President Bush and his administration with little push back against deeply culpable state and local officials.

Nagin earned all the criticism he is receiving. The pictures of the unused buses say more than any of us need to say.

Or, as I saw on another post somewhere, Democrats would screw up a one car funeral. That's why they made sure there would be thousands of bodies this time.

funding for levee improvement........That's why she and every other cajun coonass wannabe is crying right now because that money trail for levee upgrades and upkeep IMO will lead right back to a pet pork project of theirs that the levee dollars was diverted too.
Get a rope when such is proven fact !

Typical liberal reaction to a crisis. BLAME
When the hard questions need answering...BLAME
When the obvious failure of local government is most evident..point your figure at someone else and BLAME.
I have not seen a local official of New Orleans before the TV camera...not one..except the mayor...is there a New Orleans Commissioner of Health?..or Housing?...or even Social Services?. Guess they haven't been briefed, or don't have evading skills. Maybe they're not able to describe their own responsibilities.

Is it just me, or is the rhetoric on the left becoming dangerous? It's definitely not just you. They are unhinged and unstable, and frothing with misappropriated rage.

I will agree that now is not the time for the Republicans to go after the Mayor and Governor, there will be plenty of time for that. I agree that at this moment, it would make them look petty and would backfire big time.
That's the job of us here in the "Pajamahadeen."

Mary knows the skeletons that are in the closet. How much has her family benefited from the funds earmarked for the upkeep of the levees?

Lets get our troops out of there lets bring them home out of harems way, whats the time table on this.
What, you want an exit strategy in the middle of a national crisis?
Just trying to stay ahead of the Dems on this as it seems every time we send in the troops to do a job they try to deny them the satisfaction of a victory and pull them back before they can finish the job.
