First post ever..need help finding a New Orleans citizen

Posted on 09/03/2005 10:49:44 PM PDT by flowergirl

Has anyone heard anything at all about what may have happened to evacuees from the Fairmont Hotel on Elk Place in New Orleans? My husband and I went out to eat for our 25th anniversary tonite, here on Tyler Tx. We met and visited with a very sweet couple from Jefferson Parrish,..New Orleans. They evacuated Sunday a.m. and wound up in a hotel here...after several days of not being able to locate family members, etc. (which they have since found), they have talked to thier dad who stayed behind. His home as well as where their's is in a dry section of town. Their dad told them that the looters are burning downs malls and businesses..you name it. There are about 150 from L.A. and M.S. staying in the same hotel in tyler and this couple bumped into a friend from New Orleans tonite. The fellow's name is Bob Wattinguy..the last he heard, his Mom was at the Fairmont hotel in New Orleans on Elk Place. He thinks she must have been evacuated and I was hoping someone here could help. We talked w/ these folks for 1-2 hours.Thay love Texas and are thinking of relocating here, she's a bookeeper,he is a physical therapist. They are sickened by the Bush bashing. Also told us all the birds left saturday before the storm....Thank you all so much I am sure there was a better thread to post this on...sorry:)

I do not have an answer except to check out some of the newspapers, TV stations, etc because they have some kind of information like that. Good luck.

Don't know if this will help, but check some of these stories. Might be something there.

try, if you haven't already, www.nola.com. there are message boards of victims lost or seeking others. Make sure you leave numbers where they can call.

Also told us all the birds left saturday before the storm....

At first read I thought you meant snowbirds..

But then I remembered the spooky nature thingy where animals split when things are about to go nasty.

I, for one, am fortunate that Hurricane OLAF last February took a right turn just before my island. It was a cat 5, and life would not have been the same, being just a little difficult to evacuate anyone off island.

Hello and welcome. Check New Orleans: Craigslist Lost & Found as they are helping people search for missing friends & find each other with assistance from others.

There is also a number for Fairmont's hotel colleagues to call, they may have a number for you to call to inquire about the status of guests: 1-888-799-3255.

Good luck, and God Bless.

Looks like hundreds of guests at the Fairmont waded out on Thursday and boarded buses to Dallas: http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2005/09/03/1200902-sun.html

Like the elephants heading for the hills just before the tsunami. It's uncanny. I have heard many similar stories over the years of animals apparently utilizing a sense long forgotten by humans if such a sense was ever possessed by humans in the first place.

The sixth sense,or so I've heard it called.

I've always had at least one dog, if you pay attention, the dog will share his gift.

DirecTV has also announced a channel dedicated to the hurricane aftermath including locator messages, channel 100 I think if it applies.

Several years we put a new front porch on the house.
Hubby never has time to just go sit down and watch the world go by but one day I talked him into it.
He and I and my old dog went out to watch the sunset.
Suddenly, the air became utterly still.
The bazillions of chirping insects went completely silent.
All the birds in the area streaked by us, headed east into the woods.
[all of this happened in a matter of less than a minute]
I turned to hubby and said "What the....?".
No sooner had the words come out, the worst hailstorm I've ever seen hit like a freight train.
Tennis-ball size chunks of ice flew -horizontally- onto the porch, thrown by a terrifyingly strong wind.
I jumped down and threw myself over the old dog to protect her from the merciless, pounding hail and there we huddled for at least 10 minutes until it abruptly stopped.
The sun came out, the birds began to sing and the bugs started their incessant chirping again.

A solid foot of mid-July "snow" lay upon my lawn.
Hubby said snidely "I finally came out and sat on the porch with you. Happy now?!?"....:))

[and the old dog never did go up on the porch again]...LOL!

*Always* watch the critters.

I've searched for every Bob, Robert, and every Wattinguy (there aren't any) in the International Red Cross's database. Here it is if anyone else is looking for people. The search feature doesn't work too well, but you can increment the last number in the URL by 25 to page up and down the list of names.

I not only watch my dogs, I watch a colony of ants who live in the lane in front of my gate.

Without fail, they out-predict the weatherman every time.

We had a real frog-drowning, gully washer a month back and the night before it came, not only had the ants piled up little "Mount Fujis" around their tunnel entrances, they'd also dragged sticks and stones to erect ramparts and bulwarks.

I told hubby something *really* nasty was coming...and it did.
Our county and the county west of us had terrible flash flooding from a sudden and *very* heavy storm.
