Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan has canceled three visits to Colorado after emotions over her protest outside President Bush's ranch boiled over at a church and college campus. A Glenwood Springs church voted Thursday not to allow Sheehan to give a speech scheduled for later this month after some members threatened to leave the church if she came.
Church member Mo Barz said he thinks it is inappropriate for the church to host a political speaker.
"I was definitely against having her," he said. "I felt all along the church should rescind any agreement they had to have her be there."
Sheehan has gained notoriety for her month-long protest outside Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas and her demands to meet with him to discuss her 24-year-old son Casey's death in Iraq. Detractors have said she is demoralizing the troops and using her son's death to push a liberal platform.
The day after the church called off her visit there, Sheehan canceled other visits to the state, citing "more pressing needs elsewhere in the country," according to Karen Sjoberg, director of Grand Valley Peace and Justice, which had arranged for one of the visits.
Sheehan was scheduled to speak at Mesa State College in Grand Junction on Sept. 15. After the school received complaints that she would be appearing on campus, the school issued a statement saying it did not support or sponsor Sheehan's visit. Sheehan's camp then canceled the visit.
She also canceled a stop in Paonia.
Gosh, Cindy. After spending a month being pampered and coddled, it must really sting to realize nobody really cares about you anymore.
As long as the French Quarter is quiet, Cindy doesn't exist.
I was at Lowery back in the 60's also, loved it so much I moved there when I got out.
Hey Cindy! How does it feel to be on the back page!
HA HA
Yep, it's over.
Dang those detractors.
Yikes! She's been demoted to "notoriety". That can't be good.
ROFL..yup..her 15 minutes are over and I bet she's going freakin nuts realizing that the vast majority of the U.S. isn't, and has NOT been behind her movement..she's being abandonded by those that only sought THEIR name in the spotlight and used her for that purpose..
She gave an interview to a Spanish paper a few days back, I wonder who on Gods green earth would give her one now..
Casey, you're a hero (and I mean that sincerely)..
Below the fold!
LOL @ Cindy
Ironic that a person whose words embolden terrorists is referred to as a "peace mom".
This isn't good. We want her to come out and talk and continue to make her outlandish statements so more people see her for what she really is. And that's a left wing socialist shrill who is using her dead hero son as a cover for her ridiculous claims! And why hasn't she released a press statement about how she's going to give up her crusade to help the living who survived the hurricane.
All right!
We can only hope she is fizzling out.
More people all the time are saying "You don't speak for ME, Cindy!"
without the MSM to continually make it SEEM she has a huge movement going, she's nothing..there was no movement..it was media created and now that they're gone, it's also gone..Cindy who??
I went up there Dec 1960, shipped out Aug 1961. One of my favorite memories was the gigantic chow hall where every time some poor kid doing KP dropped a dish and broke it the whole place erupted in thunderous, deafening applause.
That was on base. I met a lot of great young ladies off base; I had a beautiful time (to use a line from a Merle Haggard tune).
Domino effect, anyone?
blackpowder elk season starts next week, is that the reason?
Someone with an extra cow permit?
I think this is around the time when she starts trashing hotel rooms and walks out of gigs because they don't have the bowl of all-brown M&M's in her dressing room.
So sorry, Cindy. Reality hit and its name is Katrina. Now the nation has more important things to do...
Well, she can always go ahead with her protest against the Blue Angels Airshow in Maine. That will endear her to many (NOT!).
