I went up there Dec 1960, shipped out Aug 1961. One of my favorite memories was the gigantic chow hall where every time some poor kid doing KP dropped a dish and broke it the whole place erupted in thunderous, deafening applause.

That was on base. I met a lot of great young ladies off base; I had a beautiful time (to use a line from a Merle Haggard tune).

I was there in Sept. 62 till Apr. 63 electronics school. Right you are about the ladies, WOW. I remember a bar just off base I think the name of it was 'The Happy Cat'.

I was a FANG and we got to eat at the officers mess. But we also spent a lot of time at the park next to the zoo. What memories.
