Governor Jeb Bush and Mayor Rudy Giuliani versus Governor Kathleen Blanco and Mayor Ray Nagin
September 3, 2005 | new yorker 77

How is it that Jeb Bush can prepare in advance and evacuate millions for four Hurricanes while Kathleen Blanco prepares next to nothing?

How is it that Rudy Giuliani can gain control of downtown New York on 9/11 while Ray Gavin tells people to evacuate 10 hours before the storm hits and lets looting run rampant after it passes?

Bullseye!!!!!!!!! George HW Bush lost the relection to Clintoon for his handling over Hurricane Andrew in 1992. It was Florida DimocRat Govenor Chiles who never evacuated, asked the NG, or reacted to the storm. He sat and sucked his thumb, spit chew, and scratched his head for a couple days.

By the time he asked the feds for help, it was too late. FEMA and the response team took 2 extra days to arrive and people were going insane and desperate (actually we were behaving quite civilized, even ladylike by NOLA standards.)

The democrats blamed it all on Bush. This Katrina howl is now a repeat performance from their old playbook and it will work to damage all Republicans if YOU let this happen.

In front of me sits the pull-out 2 page flyer on Hurricane Preparedness the newspaper includes nearly every weekend. I suspect that the NOLA citizens and their leaders have been using their Storm Guide Warnings as as butt wipes.

"Sheppard Smith of FOX said this morning he and his crew were staying somewhere an hour away from New Orleans. What makes me think he didn't haul any people out with him last night? Yet he and others have the audacity to bitch and moan that "it's just taking too long". He and others need to understand that sometimes it's just more important to do the right thing than to simply report the story..."

You're right...and your observation points out a flaw in our society: Everyone expects the federal government to do everything for them. This was a natural disaster of epic proportions...and instead of people lending a helping hand to those around them, the media found it more important to report the story.

There is this perverse mentallity that nothing can...or should be done without the governments help. If Shep, Geraldo or any of these media pukes were disgusted with what they were seeing, they should have dropped their microphones and started helping.
These people were obviously equiping and getting their own people in and around the city...why not help others get out? This was life and death...and these media manipulators were all around the city watching it happen instead of helping.

Yet, Bush 41 BEAT CLINTON in Florida in 1992.

Same old Media. Covering up for a mayor that abandoned his people and a Governor that is clueless.

Opps, found another one about Blanco's press-con on Sunday. I actually witnessed this live as she was responding to a reporter who asked if she was getting enough federal assistance. She was elated that Bush called her the day before to plead for "mandatory" evacuations and he also informed her that "he" issued her a state of emergency...neither of which she had done until that time. She had nothing but great words for the President in offering what ever help she needed. Shame she didn't avail herself of all those assets:

It almost seems as though Nagin and Blanco didn't want "snoopy" feds around their turf too soon.

I wonder why.
