Murder and Mayhem in New Orlean's Miserable Shelter: Lessons from the Dome
Reuters ^ | September 2, 2005 | Mark Egan

Valenti and her husband, two of very few white people in the almost exclusively black refugee camp, said she and other whites were threatened with murder on Thursday.

"They hated us. Four young black men told us the buses were going to come last night and pick up the elderly so they were going to kill us," she said, sobbing. "They were plotting to murder us and then they sent the buses away because we would all be killed if the buses came -- that's what the people in charge told us this morning."

Other survivors recounted horrific cases of sexual assault and murder.

Sitting with her daughter and other relatives, Trolkyn Joseph, 37, said men had wandered the cavernous convention center in recent nights raping and murdering children.

She said she found a dead 14-year old girl at 5 a.m. on Friday morning, four hours after the young girl went missing from her parents inside the convention center.

"She was raped for four hours until she was dead," Joseph said through tears. "Another child, a seven-year old boy was found raped and murdered in the kitchen freezer last night."

Of course Affirmative action kills. What is also a threat to democracy is that too many people are allowed to vote that have no clue what they are voting for. It should be a small test about society before people are allowed to cast a vote. I mean that it should be a lower standard for the voter.
To me its clear that a lot of people just voted for this governor because of his color. I wonder how many really thought through what they were doing when electing this person.

"Where the HELL are the Marines?
Gov. Blanco is in charge of the US Marine Corps?"

No, she's not.

Fox has just reported via a caller that a Batallion of USMC from LeJeune is on its way.

So has somebody invoked the Insurrection Act...how are the Marines going to legally operate in the city of NO? Or are they just showing up as aid for the National Guard.

"Those of us who watched the sheep line up for their weapons check before entering the Dome and quietly said, "Not me," have now been validated beyond any doubt. We have been given a case history to support our instincts should we ever be faced with a similar dilemma and have to justify our decision to "opt out" to friends and family. To that extent, the suffering of those who went along with the plan might not be in vain.

We owe it to them to learn the lesson."

Very well said. This forever answers the question of if one should ever give up their gun, or enter a large shelter during a disaster either imo.

Has anyone heard if the CANNABILISM reported Friday by Randall Robertson, liberal black activist and president of Transafrica, is true?

I heard on a CNN radio report, last evening, that one-third of the N.O. police force abandoned the city when the storm hit. Does anyone have any more on this?

In the late 1980s and early 90s, when the homeless population got large in some cities, many city officials learned the same truths the hard way that New Orleanians are learning now - there are simply incorrigible, sociopathic people out there who cannot be allowed to mix with decent people in a confined setting. In the late 80s, homeless people started refusing to go to large urban shelters, because there were so many rapes, robberies, and assaults going on in them. Large shelters became a thing of the past because no decent people would go to them and nobody would work in them either. It was either leave people on the streets or open smaller shelters with maximum security. This was a good thing in the long run, as people learned that it is actually easier to move homelss people back into the mainstream if you deal with them in smaller numbers and on more of a personal and long-term basis, rather than just focus on getting temporary roofs over their heads in mass shelters.

The social pathology we are seeing in New Orleans is not new and should not be surprising to anyone. In every big city, there is a sizable population of sociopaths who will prey on normal people regardless of the situation. It is not racial. These people simply do not have the same internal moral compass as you and me. They do not care that there is a disaster, that there are people suddenly uprooted from homes, stranded tourists, defenseless children and old ladies, etc. In fact, they have no conventional sense of "caring" at all. Other people are just prey to them. They will beat and kill their own grandmothers if you let them. There is no answer except to round up these sociopaths and put them in maximum security prisons, or shoot to kill if they shoot first.

It is painful to see and read about these sociopaths in New Orleans, but these people have been out on the streets of that city raping, murdering, and robbing for years and there are the same kinds of people in every big city. Put enough of them in a large confined space and they are going to do things that shock normal, decent people. And it isn't like you can ID these people in a line going into the Superdome. But it is very predictable that in a population of 25,000 people going into a place like the Superdome, or 5,000 into the Convention Center, there will be a bunch of them and they will prey on people, because that is what they do.

" ... I agree with the general theme here, keep your arms ready and don't depend on the government to help in chaotic conditions like this ... "

Many of us have understood this for many years, and because of past calamities.

Those who are young, have not lived through, or bothered to read of historical events, or rely on government for everything including their daily bread, are precicely like so much fodder for disasters such as these.

I have often wondered what the last thoughts were of those poor unfortunates on the 9-11 flights. Perhaps some of them thought ... If I only had a gun ...

"Reported this morning that Houston now has 100,000 people in various shelters and growing."

In the precess, raising the average IQ of both New Orleans and Houston.

This time, that tactic may well backfire..

I certainly hope so. Speaking of racism, there was yesterday a post Democratic Underground where a poster was commenting on an image of white child and her grandmother at shelter in NO. Her comment? She stated that "rich" white folks should not be permitted to use the shelters!

"It just shows that when there becomes a small minority of whites and a large majority of blacks things get out of hand."

Only in a democracy.

Houston is quickly going to realize that putting thousands into the Astrodome was a mistake. I hope they have plans to quickly disperse these people into smaller places, because the same sociopathic behavior is guaranteed to occur in any place you put more than a few hundred people for a long period of time. What is needed is to open up several large convention centers in the major cities, which have smaller ballroomms that can be turned into mini-shelters where people can be more closely monitored and feel like they are in more of a community and not a refugee camp. There have to be some trained sociologists in these areas who can tell city officials that this must be done or else there will be more human disasters like those we are seeing in New Orleans.

I'm serious - this is a matter of life and death for a lot of people. They are not out of the woods yet just because they have gotten out of New Orleans and gotten a shower and some food and water. We have to get as many people as possible into smaller settings as quickly as possible. Chruches and community groups need to go into action and start adopting these families and finding them places to live, ASAP.

The Founders only allowed male landowners to vote, and they were still concerned about mob rule, thus the veto, the electoral college, and the Senate being selected by the state legislatures.

Yes, and by contrast Rudi Gulianni stayed in NY when tragedy struck and actually LED his city! He wasn't a "rat" that abandoned the ship.

I guess you have not checked incarceration rates. How many white people do you have doing drive by shootings in Toronto?
