Valenti and her husband, two of very few white people in the almost exclusively black refugee camp, said she and other whites were threatened with murder on Thursday.
"They hated us. Four young black men told us the buses were going to come last night and pick up the elderly so they were going to kill us," she said, sobbing. "They were plotting to murder us and then they sent the buses away because we would all be killed if the buses came -- that's what the people in charge told us this morning."
Other survivors recounted horrific cases of sexual assault and murder.
Sitting with her daughter and other relatives, Trolkyn Joseph, 37, said men had wandered the cavernous convention center in recent nights raping and murdering children.
She said she found a dead 14-year old girl at 5 a.m. on Friday morning, four hours after the young girl went missing from her parents inside the convention center.
"She was raped for four hours until she was dead," Joseph said through tears. "Another child, a seven-year old boy was found raped and murdered in the kitchen freezer last night."

Are you NOW demanding that Bush be able to read the future? Sen David Vitter(R LA) ASKED Gov Blanco in front of reporters on Thursday to request Regular Military from Pres Bush. For your information, there are at least 12 active duty military bases in the States between SC and Texas. She has still not asked for that aid. She DID however, send in 300 Armed NG troops to restore order in NO that afternoon. OK do you understand that the city of NO OWN Disaster plan posted on their website evacuees are suppose to bring their OWN food and water for several days? That the City of NO has NOT stockpiled any supplies at their shelters DESPITE knowing it would take at least 48 hours to get relief columns to them? Do you understand that the physical safety of the FEMA teams is the responsibility of the City? Do you understand that if the City feels overwhelmed they ASK the State Govt for aid, including deployment of the NG? Do you realize that the initial relief efforts, directed by Gov Blanco went in UNARMED? That the reason the initial FEMA efforts were halted on Thur was because neither the State or City had done ANYTHING to protect the relief efforts? So either Nagle did not ASK or Blanco did NOT send anyone to maintain order. I suspect they felt like I did. "Why the HELL would anyone shoot at a RESCUE Helicopter" and were stunned to discover that some people are just such animals. I was willing to cut them some slack, to understand that a DISATER is just that a devastating, overwhelming event. But when they go on TV, and the Dinosaur Media keeps hyping, their screaming at the FEDS for "too little-too late" any thinking person has a MORAL, as well as INTELLECTUAL duty to point out the facts. So since the City of NO OWN plan makes the City and State responsible for the 1st 72 hours after the disaster, who is more to blame as TODAY (DAY 4 since the Levees broke) starts? See the initial response MUST be local because the Feds have to gather and MOVE, across the devastation zone, the resource to do perform operations. If anything, it amazing how much has been done so quickly. But that isn't sexy enough for our hyper partisan, hyper critical "News Media" So they hyperventilate about the nonsensical while better men actually FIX the problems.
Allthough its maybe a undemocratic thought, it might be time to considerate taking a small test of knowledge about the society before being allowed to vote. I mean that a its better to have 40% voting than 60% when 40% just dont know what they real are voting for. I think the biggest threat to a democracy is when to many people that are not enlightend cast a vote. This undermines the democracy just as much as a low turnout.
Reported this morning that Houston now has 100,000 people in various shelters and growing. Where is the rest of the country??? They are trying to move the overload as they come in to Houston to other cities in TEXAS.
Reported last night some in the Astrodome are now showering in the toilets. There are too many people in one place.

That was a very good post. During the K2 thing I read somewhere to not only stock enough for you and yours but have enough for a neighbor that didn't prepare too. I do that. One thing I have learned from this disaster is that if you evacuate , check on your neighbor, elderly, etc and offer to take someone out with you.
Interesting, because neither have the lowlife vermin who've turned a natural disaster into a national disgrace.
