Murder and Mayhem in New Orlean's Miserable Shelter: Lessons from the Dome
Reuters ^ | September 2, 2005 | Mark Egan

Valenti and her husband, two of very few white people in the almost exclusively black refugee camp, said she and other whites were threatened with murder on Thursday.

"They hated us. Four young black men told us the buses were going to come last night and pick up the elderly so they were going to kill us," she said, sobbing. "They were plotting to murder us and then they sent the buses away because we would all be killed if the buses came -- that's what the people in charge told us this morning."

Other survivors recounted horrific cases of sexual assault and murder.

Sitting with her daughter and other relatives, Trolkyn Joseph, 37, said men had wandered the cavernous convention center in recent nights raping and murdering children.

She said she found a dead 14-year old girl at 5 a.m. on Friday morning, four hours after the young girl went missing from her parents inside the convention center.

"She was raped for four hours until she was dead," Joseph said through tears. "Another child, a seven-year old boy was found raped and murdered in the kitchen freezer last night."

Please forgive me for having a bad attitude. I really do hope with all my heart that my cynicism is proved wrong.

It is perfectly understandable, and perhaps (as usual) I am being naive, but given that these two bodies (boy and girl) are where they are and what is known about them, and given that DNA can, I believe, survive very poor conditions for a very long time, I think there is an excellent chance that this evidence will be recovered. I would be even more optimistic about that though, if this was someplace other than NO

BTW, where does the figure of tens of thousands come from? I don't think there are any reliable estimates of deaths yet.

"Don't forget Rap Record music companies, with songs having lyrics GLORIFYING the killing of policemen, and then these companies go on to reap millions of dollars, get MTV awards, and define vast portions of permanent, angry, alienated underclass which are seething powderkegs in our cities waiting to go off in case of external terrorist attack on the cities."

I saw a T-shirt being worn by a young black male about a month ago. It said something to the effect of "The United Thugs of America-In Thugs we Trust."

We're seeing is the glorification of violence and criminality as a lifestyle. It doesn't take a genius to figure out where that leads in the long run.

The population of the Dome, both the wolves and the sheep, is the spawn of Liberals, who have systematically persecuted the Warrior Class into near extinction. They have attacked the entire notion of the warrior/protector both through the legal system and the educational system. To them, the only virtue is to be a victim. To them, the greatest evil, the _only evil_, is self-empowered independence from their systems of dependency. Those who pursue that path are branded "nutcases," "extremeists," "loners," "dangerous," etc., and held up to the masses for ridicule.

The revenge killing of one of the rapists by an angry mob is a poor substitute for rational intervention and preemption of the crime in the first place. No subsequent action can make whole the victim of a violent crime.

Those of us who watched the sheep line up for their weapons check before entering the Dome and quietly said, "Not me," have now been validated beyond any doubt. We have been given a case history to support our instincts should we ever be faced with a similar dilemma and have to justify our decision to "opt out" to friends and family. To that extent, the suffering of those who went along with the plan might not be in vain.

We owe it to them to learn the lesson.

Where the HELL are the Marines?
Gov. Blanco is in charge of the US Marine Corps?

Just ONCE read the whole post? OK? Here I will repost it since you seem incapable of ACTUALLY dealing the reality in your Hate Bush dementia.

Where the HELL are the Marines? Gov Blanco, just what do you think 300, THREE ZERO ZERO armed National Guard troops can do to solve this level of chaos? You have the authority Gov. Send in thousands more armed troops or ASK President Bush to send in the regular Military. YOU have the authority. USE IT. If you will not, GET OUT OF THE WAY

As I pointed out IN THE POST you just responded to, is that W WOULD send in the Marines IF Blanco would ASK for the troops. Bush has NO legal authority to order troops into a DOMESTIC law enforcement issue. The Gov of the State has to ASK. So PLEASE put you emotions in check and actually READ the WHOLE post before you fire off any more of your kneejerk ignorant responses.

"After they have seen what happened in the Anarchydome, and how govt could not stop it, I would imagine hundreds if not thousands of Americans evacuating major cities will NOT go in temporary quarters with large groups of other people. It is going to be everyman for himself."

Depends on the makeup of the group in the shelters

am sooooo outraged that we don't have military just shooting these criminals and getting some order. Shoot to kill! These snipers are the lowest of the low.

But don't you know we are SAVED? Gov Blanco ordered in 300, THREE ZERO ZERO armed NG troops into NO to restore order yesterday? Just pathetic. And as always better men are being pilloried by the Dinosaur Media while they clean up yet ANOTHER mess aggravated by Democrat Machine Politics.

I have maintained that all levels of government have failed the people of New Orleans. However, yes the Marines should have been called in on Monday to stop the chaos in the dome and save lives. I have read that Blanco had to be told by the President to order an evacuation but have not read that she refused troops.

The facts of the matter is that we are fighting an Insurgency in New Orleans and it needs to be treated as such. However, I do not think any elected official from President to the Orleans Parish Sheriff of Parking Meters would do so in this time of need.

Harry Lee the Jefferson Parish Sheriff gave orders "Let them go if they loot food or water shoot if they steal anything else."

Harry Lee in needed in New Orleans.

(one a side note, I wonder how many other major cities are this unprepared for a catastrophy, especially ones of economic, strategic importance?)

All of them, I hate to say. We need to prepare as individual families with much better planning for ourselves and for our neighbors, if they are helpless.

I hope you are right.

"Thousands have lost relatives, some literally torn from their arms in the storm. Senator David Vitter has predicted that the death toll would top 10,000 in Louisiana alone."

I've heard similar estimates have come from MS.

No, just one segment.

Sorry for calling a spade a spade, but...
I was in a white neighborhood during a fairly bad hurricane several years ago and none of these things happened.

In fact, I jumped into a pickup truck with my brother in law, a fire extinguisher, shovel and chainsaw and went out and helped folks. We burned our own gas and just did the right thing.

But then again, I have not been repressed by white society.

I am not from America, but I studyed business there for 4 years and will take my master after Christmas. From my point of view after watching this disaster over the TV I wonder if the Governor got his job over the affirmitive action program. Just like "lets wait and see what Uncle Sam does". This guy is obiously not fit for his job. This is what affirmative action can lead to. In extreme situations you need the best people regardless of colour.

Yeah, Dunbar seems to forget (with the MSM's help of course) that we gave Saddam MONTHS AND MONTHS of warning that we were coming. Gave him enough warning to hang ourselves out to dry on the WMD issue, because he was able to get the bulk of them to Syria.

What many, many Americans have been saying for many years....to no avail. The liberals of our country call that "unfair."

"There were more than enough men to take out whatever roving gangs there were. Pathetic."

I saw one of those [men?] yesterday evening trying to get on a women and children only bus dressed in a pink shirt and a wig!
