President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

Oh really. Did he get special permission to breech the closed area? Did he spend 50,000 gallons of jet fuel to reach Louisiana on a private jet?

I think most on the left and those in the media would prefer not to be B-slapped with her wit and intelligence.
Much like Rummy.

Of course, if he really *is* pitching in (like Bill Frist, for example, who is doing his job as a medic and working triage down there without a press conference), I don't really care about his politics.

Anyone seen John Travolta and his private 707 lately? He could be using that thing to evacuate 100 or so people at a shot.

So you agree with Robert Reicht, Clinton psycho, who said it just goes to prove how low we've sunk as a country?

No, but if that pathetic pissant has temporarily come around to my point of view, it shows how badly the globo-weenies have shot themselves in the foot.

what's action items were in the plan:

#1 - Buses will be needed for evacuation. Therefore, allow all the school buses to remain at the depot to flood.

#2 - Civil order will be crucial when federal aid needs to arrive. therefore, NOLA police officers will resign and go AWOL from their posts in droves.

not to be picky, but if you want to "google" it, the correct spelling is "Dysentary", and yes, it is contagious.

I sure am praying for you and yours...

none of them are going outside. FNC ran some tape this morning of small boat search & rescue. Searchers screaming down the street to even try to get people to come out of their houses.

I have a friend who, several years ago, attended a convention there at the convention center. Came home an dended up with a bacterial infection that attacked her heart muscle and had to have major surgery as a result. This was a woman in her 50's and in good health and the doctors said the timing was close enought that they felt she picked it up in NOLA -- due to mold.

That would be the same James Lee Witt that was FEMA directur under the Toon.

For those of you old enough to remember 1977, that sounds a lot like the Chicago Machine apparatcniks that were responsible for that city's blizzard plan, who only came up with that plan well after the blizzard of 1977 (need I mention that it also sank the Machine's mayor, Michael Bilandic).

Lady needing rescue said she was in the Uptown area. Probably gave the assignment to Geraldo since he's out with a boat.
