President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

Good guys are on the inside; Bad guys are on the outside. Snipers will find the bad guys. The brotherhood of honor extends to those in law enforcement, firefighting, military.

**On your link, I get page not found.**

Take off the two asterisks on the end of that link I cut and pasted. I use those to quote what I am responding to.

And that wasn't my link. :)

I think they did (or a different set of buses) make it to the Marriot, because a caller into CNN from the Ritz Carlton was evacuated in that manner.

' Evening, Cboldt!
Carry on!

BTW, just saw CNN Anderson Snow interviewing Trent Lott - it probably has been discussed already on this thread. Here are my 2 cents:

"Oh Gee .... I'm sooooooooo glad I switched over to CNN ... NOT!!"

I just put it on and watched Anderson Cooper interview a family in Mississippi, who bashed Bush because they had no help in their state....that "ALL the national guard were in Iraq."

I have to stop watching. My B/P is rising!

Thanks. I just sent a note to Keith about some of the dates/times prior to landfall that are critical to show that the democrats in NO and LA ignored. HA! Makes me feel better; I know MSNBC won't bother to post any facts, but oh well...what the hey!

Brown did so well when four hurricanes hit Florida last year. Why in hell did he just seem to fall apart in the most critical situation of his life?

Ahem...cough-cough. It's possible...just possible mind you- that Brown looked so good last year in the hurricanes because he was coming into a state that IS RUN BY A GROWN UP- who had emergency management officials on the job 24/7 so we were READY for FEMA when they showed up.

Just a thought...;)

Sen. Mary Landrieu called Friday for President Bush to appoint a cabinet-level official to direct the federal response to the devastation along the Gulf Coast caused by Hurricane Katrina.

I'm sure she means a "Democrat" official who believes more federal government involvement is the answer to the problem.

" Well Chrissy Matthews I would like to walk up to you and just B!tch Slap a little common sense in to your extremely rude head."

I watched him tonight first time in a long time and he was true to form...made a fool out of himself....he should stick to yelling at women about books he hasn't read..he's both rude and a pin head....

plus, they paid to have charter busses yesterday, that FEMA commandeered.

That was a different group of tourists, who had their priivately chartered busses commandeered. The commandeered busses were for Hotel Monteleone and Crowne Plaza Astor Downtown. THeir private busses were taken by the government.

In contrast, the tenants of the Hyatt were given preferential treatment on government-provided busses.
