President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

From the NG and CG scanner reports, the adults are now in charge. The situation on the ground is changing dramatically as we post. The best thing to do is to turn off the occupation media and listen to the scanners and read the local blogs such as The Interdictor. The best the MSM can offer are snapshots and reporter bias.

Yep. And now we will throw more $$ and energy at them so they can keep up the "hoodlum" lifestyle.

The convention center, as opposed to the Superdome, does still have people in it, or did earlier today.

Apparently due to lack of cell phone communication, no one in that city govt even knew that people had gathered at the convention center.

It was not supposed to be used for this, was not the plan, so in the confusion, no one got the message that there were 1000s of people there.

Word is finally getting out, Shep and now Geraldo are talking about it.

Somebody else said they're not being allowed to just walk out because there's nowhere else to go except one of the other parishes that is already overwhelmed with their own hurricane victims, and can't take anymore.

They'll be rescued by tomorrow, I'd guess.

Ditto that. The reporters are only human. I think their reaction is very telling regarding what is going on in NOLA. I've never seen reporters so uncomposed and panicking in any other situation (the war, the tsumani). This will be known as one of the great tragedies of this century.

Read it again, it's in perfectly clear English. Let me simplify.

1. There are no tanker trucks available to do what you want. They're all busy. Doing so is unnecessary anyway, as you will see further down.

2. Nobody East of the Mississippi River (in general) has oil right now. Their pipeline went down with Katrina. Most of the Southeast also lost their refineries with Katrina, so shipping oil to the refineries wouldn't help anyway.

3. Until Bush made his declaration Wednesday or Thursday (I forget), it was illegal to truck fuel from, say, Dallas to Shreveport and sell it there. Thank the EPA and envirofreaks for that rule. However, that has now been suspended until at least Sep 15 to help gas shortages.

4. The pipeline between Texas and the Gulf States is coming back online and should either be back at 80% of max flow now or will be tomorrow. Fuel and oil will be sent to AL, MS, and LA (as well as other SE states). This will free up the tankers to go do something else. The shortage will be mostly alleviated.

5. The Europeans have figured out that if we don't have fuel, they don't have food (because then we can't clear the Mississippi to send them food). They're going to give us some of their fuel to help out, and that will also relieve the pressure in Europe.

6. Meanwhile, the oil speculators that have been driving up the price of oil have taken it in the shorts and the price of oil is dropping.

"i didn't know if i should laugh or cry, but then i remembered this guy is desperate, hungry, and would probably believe anything"

You should not laugh or cry, but be angry that this man could believe such an idiotic idea in this day and age. You should be mad at the race-baiters like JJ and Sharpton, who shamelessly and knowingly lie to these uneducated people in order to preserve their own power and influence.

sorry if this is a stupid question but what is MSM???

Sweet. Victory is ours.

Mum, MSM was this horrible monopolistic leftest/socialist/communist organization that thrived in the latter part of the 20th Century. Now mostly extinct, a few living examples remain, in isolated pockets. A few species are CBS, ABC, CNN & NYT - but even they will mostly be dead and gone within the next few years - if you can find them, you might be entertained watching their death throes. Does that help?

You can't precision drop loads from an aircraft at high altitudes - the wind blows things all over the place.

You really can't do it over a city, because the pallets tend to cave in roofs, heads, shelters, that sort of thing.

Oh my, I just listened to that Conye West at the benefit... what a disaster that he even feels the way he does and spouting the Bush hates blacks and then Jessie calling what Bush is doing platitudes.

And the dems go on and on about a conspiracy re: Halliburton getting the Iraq contracts because of Cheney..

BUT, if there were other companies that could do the job, as quickly, efficiently, for less money...I am sure they would be considered...

But, Byron Dorgan has been holding "pretend" hearings for months and months trying to get Halliburton for fraud and every other kind of illegal activity he can think of...just to get to Cheney/Bush.

I just saw Shep again saying *if* authorities would have let them, people could of walked out.....to Jefferson Parrish.

That fits the scenario of authorities controlling exodus, and denying personal initiative / roaming bands.

I heard President Bush earlier today say the convention center was the highest priority for the day... I just dont understand what the disconnect is here.

Thanks. I guess at times I get a bit over-anxious. I realize there's a tremendous effort underway. As much as is being done, it's perhaps a natural reaction to just want to do something - anything - whether it works or not.
