President Bush continues to assess the catastrophic damage by air and on the ground in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. Bush spent the day meeting with search and rescue personnel, relief commanders, and displaced residents in Mobile, Biloxi, and the New Orleans area. U.S. Congress passed a $10.5 billion relief package for the hurricane ravaged areas. First Lady Laura Bush issued a press statement from an evacuation shelter in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Patient and staff evacuations continue from numerous New Orleans Hospitals. Thousands of patients are being airlifted to a field hospital at Louis Armstrong New Orleans Airport for triage, staging, and transport to hospitals throughout the United States.

The U.S. Coast Guard and civilian volunteers continue to evacuate thousands of survivors from their flooded homes in New Orleans. The Army Corps of Engineers continues work to repair the damaged levees.

The nation's airlines today began an operation intended to fly up to 25,000 refugees out of New Orleans. The airlines are volunteering their aircraft and crews for the program. Long convoys loaded with relief supplies arrived throughout the day into New Orleans, while convoys of buses are moving survivors out of the city.

Several large fires are burning in the city and greater New Orleans area. Reports indicate snipers are holding down firefighters. Reports of shots fired with LEO down in the St. Bernard Parish area. Rescue operations are underway. A bus carrying NOLA evauees rolled over in Opelousa, LA.

WGNO-TV New Orleans - New Orleans' ABC affiliate has returned to the air with WBRZ-TV and launched video streaming with continuous Katrina coverage.

WPMI-TV Mobile, AL - WPMI is webcasting from 5:30am - 10:30pm CDT. When off air, you can view pre-recorded reports on demand. This feed is often unreliable.

I believe that his story is that he went and got the bus on his own and picked up survivors on the way out of NO.

Excerpted 8-28-05: NEW ORLEANS (AP) — In the face of a catastrophic Hurricane Katrina, a mandatory evacuation was ordered Sunday for New Orleans by Mayor Ray Nagin.

Acknowledging that large numbers of people, many of them stranded tourists, would be unable to leave, the city set up 10 places of last resort for people to go, including the Superdome.

The mayor called the order unprecedented and said anyone who could leave the city should. He exempted hotels from the evacuation order because airlines had already cancelled all flights.

Gov. Kathleen Blanco, standing beside the mayor at a news conference, said President Bush called and personally appealed for a mandatory evacuation for the low-lying city, which is prone to flooding.

President Bush declares A State of Emergency on 8-26,

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/08/20050827-1.html

Calls the Mayor and Governor persoanlly on 8-28-05 pleads with the incompetant idiots to evacuate the residents, then has to personally see to it that Federal reliefe is provided because neither the Mayor or Governor is capable of taking care of the people. Just the facts.

Can I help?;)

Personally I was thinking of mixing up a pitcher of long island iced teas. Maybe if we have a few of those the MSM won't be such an endangered species in our vicinity.

I'll bet she voted for Kerry at least twice.

and that's the honest to God's truth!

"""Whoa, Shep now claiming people are LOCKED in the convention center. Police set up roadblocks to keep people from leaving NO. That can't be true."""

What Shep doesn't realize is that Gretna is in Jefferson parish, not Orleans Parish, and Sheriff Harry Lee has issued a state of emergency and no one who doesn't belong there will be allowed in. He knows the thugs would make matters worse there and his responsibility is to the people of his parish and to keep them safe. Harry Lee was on in the beginning stating he would just as soon shoot looters than to arrest them and he will, he doesn't mess around. Needless to say he has maintained order and control there.

you can shave with a bottle of water, shaving cream, and a Gillette. you don't need electricity to shave. Shep isn't living on that ramp, I imagine he's still in that hotel on Bourbon street? what I want to know is, what is he using for a toilet?

EXACTLY my question too. How come Geraldo and Shep can get in and out? No one answers these questions.....where does Shep get the changes of clothing? All he can say is that those people were abandoned. That is not responsible IMHO, when we saw Harrigan at the same place earlier, where food and water were being handed out.

The gimmiecrats have long wanted to turn America into a third world cesspit, and so now we see the fruits of their scheming. Why do they now complain? They should slap themselves on the back and send out for champaign. If I sound cynical, I have nothing but compassion for the good folks of the Gulf coast. It's the looters -those in the streets and those in the corridors of power that I detest.

I wonder how many of these buses in water could have taken out people stranded from the hurricane. Sure Jessie Jackson blame Bush before thinking.
