Thank you, Its inspired by others here.
I will keep the NHC forecast track on my HD forever.
It says alot.

Why didn't they load the buses with people who didn't have cars to leave and get them out?
Why didn't they at least move the buses to high ground in case they were needed for evacuations?
Why the hell haven't they arrested the mayor for criminal negligence? Well, maybe he's hiding up the bayou smoking crack with Marion Barry at a special secret mayor's conference.

Awesome news gatering, No Blue States. I love it. You know, I bet even the New York Times will report Mayor Nagin had 48 hours notice the Hurricane would hit him and he did not deploy any buses to help his city. Not.

Worse, he had more than 2 days when this alert went out. Landfall wasn't expected until Monday at 8 PM according to the graphic. He made sure his family got out by helicopter, though...

Are you aware of what you're saying? I don't think so.
Those busses were in the water...AFTER the hurricane hit. He could have rounded up people BEFORE the hurricane hit. Jeez.

I always wondered why the states in the path of hurricanes don't keep a fleet of amphibious vehicles for evacuations? I always think of the "London Duck Tour" buses or something like that...
To: joinedafterattack
If one 20-year-old kid could drive a busload of his fellow citizens, who shared their scarce pennies and dollars to care for their fellow travelers, then the Governor and local leaders could have encouraged the same kind of pioneering effort. Instead, they looked to the federal government to solve their problems for them.
America was built by individual self reliance and innovation. It was not built by government planners!!!
If the American citizens and local leaders of 1776 and the 1800's had possessed the same attitude that the bureaucrats and politicians of today possess, then the West would never have been settled, because the wagons would have been declared unsafe inasmuch as Washington had not directed their inspection and approval.

Clear-eyed, steely, cold hard truth.

"I think FEMA has been completely dysfunctional and is completely overwhelmed, and I don't know why. This situation was utterly predictable," said Vitter, R-Metairie. "It seems like there was no coherent plan, which I don't understand because this precise scenario has been predicted for 20 years," he said. AP
They knew the levees were built for cat 3 max, and with pending cat 4/5 they did not force the evac. Yet, as Vitter said, "this situation was utterly predictable."
My father always said that experience is having done it wrong at least once. Their experience has cost the whole nation.
