Dennis Prager: Astrodome inadequate. Take the Katrina victims into your home
http://www.dennisprager.com/ ^
Posted on 09/02/2005 11:18:26 AM PDT by EveningStar
Dennis Prager has just suggested that folks open up their homes to Katrina victims. Invite them to stay there for a month. The Astromdome is not the place to house people. The state is not the proper entity to take care of these victims. The citizens should do it. Dennis himself is going to open up his home to a family.
Dennis is a great person.

One should consider race as the prime factor in deciding whether to let in their homes any of these people. It depends on what you mean by race. To quote Dennis (who is quoting someone else - I forget who), there are only two races, the decent and the indecent.
Another thing. I've lived in white communities all my life. I myself am white. And I've encountered more than my share of vile people.

Dennis belives that there are only two races, the decent and the indecent.

Do you think that most of the people being rescued in NO are criminals?
To: EveningStar
Do you think that most of the people being rescued in NO are criminals? NO has the absolute highest crime rate in the country. That means that it has a significant portion of its populations that are indeed criminals and given the fact that crime is highest in the lower income areas then that population has a still larger percentage. It is completely fair to assume that the 100,000 evacuees will represent those percentages. So, no they are not all criminals but you can bet that there are a lot that are.

I think Dennis is assuming, as I am, that the vast majority of these people are decent. And this is totally voluntary. Also, a person has every right to not take in someone he thinks is untrustworthy.

No the criminals are at war with the authority.

Let Dennis Prager invite them in his home.
Maybe he should check with the Monroe, Louisiana family who took in a few evacuees from Katrina. They gave them a safe place to sleep, showers, hot food, clean clothes, etc. The thanks they got...they were murdered in their sleep.

I just heard about it today from some nurses from that area. I have been trying to find an article about it but I haven't seen anything so far.
Our town is feeding 1,700 evacuees tomorrow at our softball complex. But I'm not about to invite anyone in my home that I know nothing about.

Thanks for checking, even if you can't find anything in print.
No doubt this sort of thing is going to play out again and again wherever those "choice cuts" from the SuperDome evacuation end up.
Friend, if I were you, I wouldn't have anybody stay at my house, period.
If they're being adequately cared for by your local municipality, they should thank their lucky stars, be grateful for whatever they're given, and remain content with that provisional arrangement.
I live 40 mi. east of Austin, TX, and I'll be damned if I open my home (and expose my family and neighborhood) to the threat of harm at the hands of strangers like these.
If folks think that's being hard-hearted, so be it.

I hear John Kerry and Teddy Kennedy have several very large vacation homes. Maybe they will make them availableHeh! You know, she told us to call her "Momma T." Wonder how many she'll be inviting over for a stay?

No one suggests taking in a person of questionable character. But that person checks out, you are doing something that no amount of money can buy: giving hope. And who who knows, you may be in that person's shoes one day. We are after all, when all is said and done, family. There would be more to America if people stopped treating each other like total strangers. Family can help individuals in a way government never will. Its time to rally the armies of compassion!

No offense, but Prager is out of his mind. You couldn't pay me to take in a random stranger from New Orleans. My entire life, and prtoection of my family, is based on being as seperated from random homeless strangers as possible.
