President Bush and House conservatives are on a collision course over the contentious issue of immigration reform, Rep. Tom Tancredo (R.-Colo.) said Thursday.
Tancredo, chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus and author of the REAL GUEST Act (HR 3333), said he expects Bush to embrace legislation drafted by Senators Teddy Kennedy (D.-Mass.) and John McCain (R.-Ariz.). Conservatives strongly oppose the bill, which Tancredo said is tantamount to amnesty.
Tancredos bill instead focuses on enforcement, particularly on companies that employ illegal immigrants. He said once illegal workers are denied jobs, they will no longer flood into the United States.
If you stop illegal employment in this countrysome big, high-profile cases with . . .

Yeah, I know, he may not care about that very much.
Not good news
Oh, imagine that...Tancredo on immigration. One issue candidate. He stands no chance. Dont waste our time with Tancredo's crap.
If Bush wants there to be ANY chance of electing a Republican President in 2008, he had best not endorse Kennedy/McCain.

No joking matter. If the immigration and border issue is not addressed SOON AND EFFECTIVELY it will have a major impact. The REAL citizens of this country are NOT HAPPY with the complacent and politically-driven position of Washington. Not at all.
Why not? Everyone endures yours..
Preferably it will NEVER become part of the debate.
Oh, imagine that...Tancredo on immigration. One issue candidate. He stands no chance. Dont waste our time with Tancredo's crap.
Oh, imagine that...Lincoln on slavery. One issue candidate. He stands no chance. Dont waste our time with Lincoln's crap.
I cannot wait until 2008 when Tancredo crashes and burns. I never said immigration isnt an issue, but Tom "foot in his mouth" Tancredo has NO other issue at all. He is miserable on foreign affairs, economics and just about any other topic you can think of, but he sure can mouth off about immigration.
DeLay's too smart not to notice the public groundswell---especially from the Republican base---demanding border security and law enforcement. No one but corporate scofflaws and their on-line whores believes the Republican Party should stand for lawlessness and neglect of national defense.
Got some examples and facts to back that up, or is that a personal opinion?
Very good.
But we should reform legal immigration at the same time so we stop screwing over the people who are trying to follow the law.
Sound familiar....?More one note candidate stuff?
Bwahhahaaa!!
Example 1. Article 6 of the USA Constitution states that any treaty made by the USA is the 'supreme law of the land.' Congressmen are sworn to uphold the constitution.
The Shanghai Communiqué and two other treaties between America and China declare unequivocally that Taiwan is part of China and that their separation shall be peacefully resolved by the Chinese people. Tancredo spouted off that we should "liberate" Taiwan by ANY means necessary, completely ignoring economic and political ramifications.
Example 2. "Bomb Mecca". Nice language for a political candidate...in Medievel Europe perhaps.
You are right about that; I agree that he's not a well-rounded candidate - but at the right historical moment, when an issue gets red hot, the guy who owns it can be be carried a long, long way.
One issue? I could care less. If you're only going to focus on one thing, illegal immigration is a heckuva good choice.
Maybe the reason Tancredo keeps playing his one note song is that it's high time it got heard and, if it doesn't get heard, in the aftermath, nobody will be able to blame him for that. Nobody will be able to stand up and say Tancredo didn't give it his all, no matter how annoyed YOU are about it. Maybe, instead of downing the man, you ought to pick up the tune and sing along. Maybe, if enough of us were signing that same note, Big Bro would finally hear it and get his mojo on to do something about it, after which we could all lay it to rest and get on with other things.
Go back and read about William Wilberforce and the issue of slavery in England and, in particular, the British slave trade. He was another famous "one note song" kinda guy, and nobody wanted to hear his music, either. His first efforts in 1791 were resoundingly defeated. But he was playing a song that needed hearing and, when it finally did get heard, the change began and the slave trade was made illegal in 1807. The greater issue of slavery in England was finally laid to rest in 1833 with the emancipation of all slaves in the empire -- one month after Wilberforce's death.
Take a page from more recent history and look at the life of Rev. Billy Graham. He's pretty much sung just one song his whole life -- "Just As I Am" if I'm not mistaken -- and nobody in their right mind is taking him to task over it. Has he annoyed people? Yeah. Lots of people; his crusades frequently have picketers or pamphleteers outside working for the Jehovah's Witnesses or other opposition groups. Has he changed his tune? No. Because it is a song that needs to be heard, and when it does get heard, lives are changed for the better.
Some people live their whole lives with just one purpose: to sing the one song they have in their hearts. People like these have changed the world and will continue to do so. If we're lucky, Tom Tancredo will prove to be one of them.
Lead. Follow. Or stand aside.
Tancredo has my vote. 1 issue, 1 vote.
Remember Bush was elected this time around for one Issue and one Issue only, WOT. Without which he would have been relegated to the dustbin of history.
Well said. Feel free to say it again whenever you like.
Immigration is not "one issue." It affects crime, schools, taxes, hospitals, infrastructure, quality of life, language, culture, etc., etc., etc.
