New Orleans Mayor No Giuliani
Washington Times ^ | 9/2/05

The leadership skills of New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin have been put to the ultimate test this week, a test some critics say he is failing as his storm-ravaged city descends into chaos, violence, looting and despair.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune's Web site has become a clearinghouse for residents of the Crescent City to communicate with their neighbors, and many are taking the opportunity to express frustration with their mayor. "Where are you?" one person asked on the Web site. "Be a man and take care of your people."

Another person said he liked Mr. Nagin but wondered, "Where is command central? Can we get some sort of plan, any plan, other than busing the refugees from dome to dome?"

Mr. Nagin, a former cable TV executive, was elected three years ago at the age of 45 after promising to reverse the city's reputation for corruption. Now, he finds himself saying things about his city that he never could have dreamed possible.

I just heard this guy on the radio. What a d-bag. I mean seriously. Of course, he is better than the nxet guy who called on a general in our military to rebel and go down there to help.

The situation is only getting worse.

"It's really difficult because my opinion of the looting is it started with people running out of food, and you can't really argue with that too much," he said.

Way to show some leadership. Moron.

Nagin's clearly out of his depth. A living illustration of the Peter Principle: one rises to one's ultimate position of incompetence.

I head him this morning too. I was so disgusted with this guy. He was crying about how it was Bush's fault cause we were in Iraq. What about his city? New Orleans was voted recently the most dangerous city in the U.S. And why was that? Because of his incompetance. He had time to get rid of the crime in the city and set up an emergency plan but NO he didn't - now he has a free for all there and people are dying and he's crying about everything.

Someone needs to post the photo of those school buses sitting in a parking lot, flooded up to their windows.

That's the result of the entitlement mentality. New Orleans is a prime example of why every state needs a concealed carry law.

Yeah - I guess dyin' with a DVD player is the ultimate in post-modern narcissism.

It doesn't take long for all politicians to enter the battlefield and shoot the wounded as the first order of business.

Bush has to
1]Put someone in charge to take over
2]Open all the military bases to receive needy
3]Obtain local transportation to nearby airports
4]Ground some commercial flights. Send those aircraft to airports to airlift
5]Local people provide transportation to bases and food.
6]Rehab New Orleans

Pronto - Act like this is a war to be won quickly or lost.

he's already started blaming the pres for crap that's hitting the fan there

And if the values and voting habits of his constituency are any guide he's hit upon a winning strategy. I predict he'll be re-elected in a landslide.

I agree with you, but I do think that President Bush is going to have to defend himself. The Governor and Mayor just keep blaming the Federal Government and the MSM is adding more fuel to the fire, Listen to Al Sharpton, and Black Caucus. It's all about racism. I think Bush or someone needs to do a better job of listing the facts, problems with the local gov and state government.

I still think Federal Government should have just taken over the dam state instead of letting things get out of control. No matter what he does, he's already blamed for the entire problem. Isn't the state responsible for having had a system in place.
I like your tag line. says it all

Every single bus in that town should have been moving residents out of the region up to two hours prior to the storm. To have parked all these buses...is stupid. And upon delivering those poor souls out of the affected area...the bus drivers should have parked up in Baton Rouge and waited out the storm...to bring survivors out the next day. How simple would that have been? And what mayor could have done that? None that I see. Sad....and they elected this character...and they will stand by him. This town doesn't get alot of pity...they want your dollars and tourism...and simply shoveled money into a pit.
