Have you thought of volunteering in the disaster preparedness and reponse team in your area??What does that have to do with anything?
You don't have to answer the question and you don't have to fling out sarcasm. I was pointing out there are ways in which we can all help and be involved should a disaster arise in our own areas. Clearly, the people in New Orleans were not prepared.

Right. Local, State and Federal govt werent prepared. Corp of Engr not prepared. The people of N.O. weren't prepared or didnt take it seriously enough. This is a massive wakeup call similar to 9/11. Is San Francisco prepared for a major earthquake? is NYC really prepared for a nuke attack?

"That being said, there is a strong perception he is out to lunch"Among what group of people exactly? This is the first time I've heard the president being accused of being out to lunch.

LOL.
Then vote for a Dem, a Libertarian, the Greens, the Socialists, Communists, there are lots of pols to choose from.
Why all the hyper-criticism and hysteria?

The majority of the American people don't buy this crap from the left. I think you are right; before this weekend is over, it's going to dawn on the collective normal citizens of this country that in these dire circumstances, you don't burn what's left of your town down.
IMO, these people are not only living up to, but they are PROVING every single stereotype people have ever thought about them.
And, frankly, I'm disgusted that they are using this storm to try to take advantage politically.
I'm going to find somewhere to send MY money that doesn't involve them.

That being said, there is a strong perception he is out to lunchOnly if you trust the media, and don't bother to find out the facts.

A case of deliberate misunderstanding, methinks..... What you said was very clear. Well I thought so! I'll have to go back and make sure I didn't use the word "is" in the post.

The riots in LA didn't win any sympathy, and what the leftovers in New orleans are doing isn't winning sympathy.

Smoke coming from downtown N.O. Saw a shot of it on CNBC. Black smoke.

I think among a lot of people who didn't vote for him, and seeping into the people who did vote for him. He was depcited as out to vacation when an Ohio town lost 20 reservists in a day. Didn't even bother to visit the town. He allowed himself to be upstaged by a loopie mom. After 4 years of homeland security investment, rescue efforts in NO have been awful.
Out to lunch.
To: ohioWfan
PLEASE folks..............let's be patient with FEMA. This is an enormous task!!I'm just getting to this thread: are the people on FR complaining about the evacuation?

"OXENinFLA; Howlin"I rememebr a poster on one of the live threads said Geraldo was heading for NO so he could hang on to a sign and flap in the wind while shouting heroically...or something to that effect.
Guess he decided to wait until it was safe. Maybe he'll hunt for bin Laden among the looters.

I thought there were explosions at a plant, and there has been no water pressure to put out the fires.
Have any of these fires been deliberately set?

You will never understand. It is not a crummy job, but an impossible one. No agency of the Government works miracle. They actually in spite of what you think have accomplished amazing feats, but your narrow blame game will never allow you to accept it.

The criticism is not hyper. It's legit. There isn't much to show for disaster preparedness, as the situation in NO makes clear.
To: RobbyS
The mayor and governor reacting slowly and ineffectively was the smallest part of what they did wrong.
The biggest thing they did wrong was to PROMOTE LOOTING !
If they hadn't ENCOURAGED LOOTING, the violence wouldn't have escalated, and the rescue efforts wouldn't have been impeded.
To: Rutles4Ever
Did I just hear that people are riding around in the back of trucks with guns, like marauders?

It's interesting how extreme conservatives, who want NO power in the federal government, expect the President to wave a magic wand, disobey the law, and fix the problem immediately. BINGO!
