President to speak at 9am ...
Excuse me, but look at the maps for Friday. NO was in the cone, not far from the center.
At this point, in a city that everyone knows can be destroyed by a Cat 3, everyone in the city should have been on the alert, and moving resources to high ground.
About ten years ago my town was threatened by one of these. Two days out, my company spent an entire day packing up computers in waterproof bags and putting them under desks in the event of a roof collapse. The storm never hit.
When you are in the cone, you don't take your eye off the storm.
Or...heaven help us....LA or SF or San Diego when the large earthquake that is due in the future, hits about 10:45AM on a Wednesday morning!
And everyone living in those areas KNOWS these earthquakes are coming...without a doubt.
But they will scream for help if they're alive after the event...and blame the local/state/federal government for "lack of response".
When they have the absolute choice of getting out of there now.
Ah well....and so it goes...
BINGO!!!
As bad as this is, every now and then somebody brings up John Kerry and I envision Lurch windsurfing through NO, or standing at a jaunty angle at the prow of his swift boat, heading for the port of NO while explosions rock the horizon.
Wonder what he'll have to say in the Senate, if he shows up for work instead.
I would like to see some responsible people run against these fools. Maybe more will, after this debacle.
Exactly!
The black leadership in this display have just rendered themselves totally irrelevant.
Pathetic!
I'm telling ya ... I am in no mood for this BS
The federal Coastguard and other federal resources are taking the lead in the rescue efforts. The federally-led rescuers were taking people to the Convention Center, but the federal FEMA did not know about the Convention Center.
Left hand, please talk to the right hand.
More than 80 officers sent to quell the chaos of the Convention Center were beaten back by an angry mob, whose members were said to be raping and beating passersby. Bodies were strewn among the 15,000 to 20,000 people there, many dropped off by rescuers earlier without food, water or medicine. A helicopter crew was forced to toss supplies to the crowd below after being impeded from landing. At any rate, now it seems that the situation is become more stable. I hope we can discuss good news from now on. There would be enough time for the blame game later on.
Thanks. I know the idiot governor finally requested federal help in controlling looters and restoring security.
NG restoring order...rescuers thrilled.
Well, the way I figure is that the Democrats wouldn't mind because they see the Constitution as a "living, breathing" document. There are just some things the designers of the Constitution never had in mind when they drafted it. Able-bodied people sitting in line waiting for help while the dead bodies of disabled elders lay beside them is just one of the scenarios I'm sure they weren't contemplating.
Of course, we could always appoint a committee to look into the situation and do an analysis, maybe Wolf Blitzer can do a few surveys to see what the rest of America thinks and while we're at it, check on the President's approval rating... And then maybe sometime after the Thanksgiving break, as the U.S. Navy lies in waiting, anchored off the coast of Louisiana, we can covene a hearing to determine who the framers of the constitution had in mind to carry any financial burdens for the soon-to-be launched rescue efforts which, if all goes well and they can schedule a vote on the floor, we could hopefully see a plan of action detailed and ready for the Presidents signature sometime before the Senate goes home for their Christmas break. How about that? Will that work for you?
Wait a minute there, cowboy. Nobody should be dying of dehydration, four days later. This was not handled well, but there is a massive effort under way, and it is evident this morning.
We can never again have a FEMA director get up on a podium with a deer-in-the-headlights look, and admit on national television that he is not doing a very good job.
I hope Bush goes to the Convention Center .... that would shut up the Mayor and the Governor.
I don't have a problem, this is a chance for the President to end all of this BS....
I would like to see some personal responsibility .. period
God helps those who help themselves
President on ground in Mobile Alabama.
Obviously, you're going to continue to be dishonest about what your main theme has been in all of your posts on this thread. People with your kind of attitude in situations like this are part of the problem, not the solution. You're in the way, a waste of time and will now be ignored.
Can ya seeing me rolling my eyes???
BTW .. The President's plane just landed in Alabama
