A lot of people on this thread expect the impossible.

Well they think all President Bush has to do is twitch his nose like the TV character below, and all is well.

There's nothing but excuses coming out of his mouth. Enough with the excuses! Develop a plan, and execute the plan!

There is not one iota of rational thought going on in the media and conservatives are falling in the trap!

This is utter nonsense. This event happened just Saturday night! Do you honestly believe that a simple/complex plan could solve the problem of 1,000,000 people becoming homeless overnight? Hunderds of thousands of homes/businesses being destroyed over a three state area. Yes, I said three state area!

Do you honestly believe that a simple/complex plan would have been able to provide rescue and hospital operations over 1,000 square miles overnight?

Put Clinton in charge, would we be better off? I thank God that Bush's is in charge and grown-ups are in office to provide service over the long period of time it will take to recover!

The Convention Center situation IS a disgrace, it shouold never have happened in the first place, and I do not mean to belittle it, but for God's sake, there are maybe a few thousand people there, out of over a million left homeless by this storm.

I've been a Bush supporter and a Republican for over 80 years. But the president's performance during [insert event here] has made me see that he's an idiotic incompetant buffoon who has no idea what he's doing. Therefore, I will now be voting for every dictator-hugging commie Democrat that comes down the pike. Death to the Republican Party!

/seminar post

Lots of these out there today.

Those trying to score political points during this disaster are the moral equivalent of looters.

President Bush should appoint Rudy Guiliani to be in charge...to "get the ball rolling" ... better late than never.

Immediately. Preparation could have happened days in advance when Katrina turned into a Cat 5 hurricane. All the meteorologists were saying how devestating this hurricane will be. Crime in NOLA is much higher than national averages.

Anybody who gives this a second thought would realize that we would have to at least airdrop supplies, and do something about the impending crime wave.

The scope of this is inconceivable. The indisputable fact remains that the insufficient protection of N.O. was a catastrophic failure at every level of government charged with protection of the populace. What's more, this has been decades in the making. It falls on both sides of the aisle, through multiple local, state, and federal administrations.

I don't doubt for one second W's personal concern and compassion for these poor souls. But somewhere along the line, the ball was dropped. We have Nagin claiming Gov Blanco didn't enforce martial law when he demanded it three days ago. We've got Blanco walking around in a daze, and Mary Landrieu doing her best imitation of a monkey entrusted with the welfare of the people.

There's tremendous frustration with FEMA. There's tremendous frustration with HS. The city of N.O. is effectively finished. The infrastructure is gone. No sewers. No electricity. No phones. Commerce is destroyed. All that real estate equity is GONE. GONE!

Heads are still spinning, so, I think we need to be aware that people will say things here that may seem un-FReeperlike, but, let's face it, this is unprecedented in scale and misery on our shores...

Antoninus, I hope you're not referring to me. We've corresponded in the past, and I think you know that I am anything but a Bush-basher.

That's my point. The President will get questions and blasts, and he'd better have a response ready. See my post no. 101.

FEMA is made up of civilians who have no skills in dealing with anarchy.

The military needs to have provisions before they are deployed. Clean water, beds, food, medical facilities.

Even in a war zone there are supples at the rear that are sent up the line to the men.

This is a situation no one could have envisioned.

Port closed, roads blocked with debris, and the civilian population shooting at rescuers.

As I said earlier, NO is Little Somalia.

LOL, exactly. Oh, but you won't see the blamers accuse Bush of not helping the 'rapists not be rapists' because they already know that rapists are just 'born that way'. lol.

I think Congress was a bit slow to go back into session myself.

No doubt about it. On Tuesday, the whole world could see the gravity of the whole situation. They should have been back in D.C. that very night.

"It's against the law."

Maybe yes, maybe no. Regardless, it would certainly have been possible to get federal troops down there sooner.

President: I want you to ask me to send troops.

Governor: There's no need.

President: Then I will go on national TV and explain exactly why there are no troops being sent.

Governor: Can I please change my answer?
