International Aid Offered To Help Overcome Katrina

Washington, D.C. (AHN) - More than 20 countries have offered to help the United States recover from Hurricane Katrina.
The hurricane devastated New Orleans and other parts of the U.S. Gulf Coast, killing hundreds and possibly thousands.
The State Department said offers so far had come from Belgium, Canada, Russia, Japan, France, Germany, Britain, China, Australia, Jamaica, Honduras, Greece, Venezuela, the Organization of American States, NATO, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, South Korea, Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
Assistance ranged from medical teams, boats, aircraft, tents, blankets, generators and cash donations.
"Anything that can be of help to alleviate the tragic situation of the area affected by Hurricane Katrina will be accepted," said State Department spokesman Sean McCormack.
"America should be heartened by the fact that the world is reaching out to America at a time of need," he added.
We'll soon see who is on our side, by what they do instead of what they say.
I was wondering just what the international response to this tragedy would be. Whether or not the response would be along the lines of the recovery efforts for the tsunami last year, or if it would be mere lip service. I'm still holding out hope that it'll be more than lip service, but I've seen our world neighbors in action lately.
Oooops. Sorry. I forgot: America suffered the tragedy this time, instead of being the country to lead the rescue and relief charge overseas.
A perfect opportunity for the rest of the world to "put up or shut up!"
The Dominican Republic has offered help, but the country we rushed to help after their recent earthquake that sits on one of the largest oil reserves didn't bother.
Yet if they have another earthquake we'll be sending them money for them to spend on nukes to threaten us with.
Makes sense to me.
That is encouraging! I'd heard that the Germans had offered technical help for the clean up and that the Canadians were preparing to send the Canadian Red Cross.
It doesn't get much press, which is too bad.
If you have to name your friends in quotation marks, your friendships are probably not the best ones.
I am from Germany and you can believe me, that nearly all of my compatriots are deeply touched by the results of this natural disaster. We share the grief and we want to help. I do not know, what those morons who govern me are doing, but I know what I and my friends will do: Since we can not help personally, we all will donate money for our American friends who are in need. You should know that the Frenchies aren't all little Chiracs and Germany is much more than Schroeder. To a greater extent countries like Australia and the UK are your stauch partners in the Iraq war.
Therefore it would be nice, if you try to meet your friends with a littlebit respect. It is not the time for primitive anger, but the time to help.
It will take a great effort to see that nothing sent to help is wasted.
It'll be interesting to see how much, if anything, the Saudis contribute.
I think we should let our "friends" show just how much they really care.
We'll soon see who is on our side, by what they do instead of what they say

That is okay. Your comment was just a littlebit irritating to me, since the motives of many non-Americans who want to help here, are completely unselfish. Of course, everywhere on this planet you will find scum that is pleased on the misfortune of others. The good news is, that there are much more people who try to have a hand to help, if somebody is in trouble.
I will donate as good as I can and the prayers of me and my family are with those who are in need after this disaster.

Actions speak louder than words.
It's no coincidence that Great Britain, Australia, Japan, and a few others rushed in to help while others talked of "Global warming and how it's Bush's fault". They in fact made claims that their help would be a hindrance!
Many of our so called allies are leeches. They revel when the see us in agony; they feed off of the offal.
