The imagery posted on this site is of the Gulf coast of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama after Hurricane Katrina made landfall.
This imagery was acquired by the NOAA Remote Sensing Division to support NOAA national security and emergency response requirements. In addition, it will be used for ongoing research efforts for testing and developing standards for airborne digital imagery.
Please note that these images are uncorrected and not rotated. The approximate ground sample distance (GSD) for each pixel is 37 cm (1.2 feet). The images have 60% forward overlap, and sidelap unknown. Image file size is between 2 MB and 3 MB.
In an effort to acquire imagery in a timely manner after the landfall of the Hurricane Katrina, clouds may be present in the imagery. Download images for cells: Bay St Louis, Mississippi, Gulfport, Mississippi, Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Pascagoula, Mississippi and Middle Bay, Mississippi.
You can over lay them to get an even keener eye into the destruction.
It is just groovy.
Would it be possible for you to post an image?

Hmm.. There are several images of the Plaquemines Parish coast that are supposed to be over land according to the map that show nothing but water..
Are these images taken by an orbiting satellite? I assume yes. Thanks.
Note from my beloved:
We used www.maps.google.com to help orient us to the terrain so we could zero in on FMC's families' addresses to check out damage in their areas. At least the satellite shot doesn't look too bad for them.
Some of the pics from the website load with a 90 degree tilt, so North is pointing East or West. You can use a picture editor to turn it the right way & then drill down.
Did you scroll over the entire image? They are not rotated correctly. In the one I looked at, the land was on the right.
Would be nice to see pics of the I-10 leading into New Orleans. Im assuming the I-10 at Howard must be underwater
Aha! I found some bits of land in the images I was wanting to see. You're right. The orientation is all screwy.
Thanks for posting this thread. Eye opening photos!
