Just heard on CNN that Astrodome is turning away people coming up from NOLA
Apparently they can't handle 20,000
Well, I hope they're in contact with the bus drivers, so they take the people to another shelter.
Probably a temporary glitch or some fire marshall thumping around about no occupancy permit, or it could be some kind of security issue.
The DOME is full....25,000 people are in the DOME...that's as full as it can go...
Please Lord, don't let it be the L.A. Coliseum.
Looked like every square inch of the field is taken.
Where did they all come from?
It is not as if those people are illegal immigrants.
I doubt it. Its under the command of a Judge appointed by the Governor, its a national emergency, and any fire marshal would be hauled off kicking and screaming.
They knew it would fill, and have other shelters in Houston to divert the overflow to. That's what Perry said earlier.
Hopefully someone else will take them in. The dome is full I understand. Aren't there shelters all over the US that could help?
Cop just interviewed on CNN says they reached capacity according to the fire marshall. No word on what capacity was.
So buses arriving are being sent to other facilities. Buses will be coming in non-stop overnight and tomorrow.
They are saying a fire marshall stopped it. No where near 20,000 inside.
Send them to Detroit.
That would be the same CNN that's been reporting all day that the plan all along was to put 25000 in the dome, then put the overflow elsewhere, right? Now that we've gotten to 25K, they've conveniently forgotten about the rest of the plan, because "turned away" is a bigger story than "diverted as planned". Ted would be proud of them.
Lakewood which is the former Compaq Center is right in Houston.
Yep, just heard the fire chief or whatever said the Dome is at legal capacity. Well why the hell didn't he state what the legal capacity was BEFORE 10:30 tonight?
Friggin idiot.
I don't think the Astrodome should be overcrowded either, but jeez, the stupid fire chief or whoever it was should have set a limit before now. Yesterday they were saying they wouldn't turn anyone away.
Ugh.
"Cities all over Texas immediately turn away and look busy..."
Yea, it's not like the Tigers are doing much with Comerican Park this year.
