With so much of our attention and emergency resources focussed on NO and elswhere in Katrina's wake, I keep having the scary thought that if AQ has anything in place to hit us with, now would be an ideal (for them) time to do it.

I wish I hadn't thought of this but there it is.

If this storm becomes hurricane or even just T.S. Maria, and if it follows the more southerly path of the "cone" on the map that would place it in the NYC area at next weekend: September 10 - 11.

Even radical Muslims aren't that stupid. A terrorist attack on the U.S. at a time like this would generate a hideous, overwhelming response due to public pressure alone. I could easily see the U.S. concocting a story about who was responsible, then laying waste to a major Islamic capital within 48 hours -- just to make a point.

Americans root for the underdog; if AQ tries to "kick us when we're down" there would be no limit to what we would do in response...
