Thanks for link, but the pertinent part [I think] is from one of the newshound people with a COMMENT to readers. Not from OReilly.

I still don't see the evidence in that. Not that I am doubting it happened, I did see two or three blue uniformed people taking things from shelves. And they weren't 'shopping' to pay later.

Did you see me state that they shouldn't cry. I said they should be damn glad they aren't in NO. People need to get a perspective. Crying over your windshield? Okay. Great. Then remember when you go to bed tonight that you aren't on the floor of the Superdome.

This was the end of the month. If someone is on Federal programs, they may have been out of benefits for the month.

If you can afford cigarettes, then you can afford just about anything.

the "bus", as in one bus? there ought to be alot more buses then that. that location is one area where they could successfully evac people from without boats or helicoper rescues, they ought to be moving them out alot faster.

Historically, we have not needed a large number of law enforcement officials in this country.

Historically, too, we have been a nation of self-sufficient people holding Judeo-Christian values.

I wonder if there's any connection here?

I didn't understand that part..why was he saying the city turned it all off....I would think that he'd understand 1) the hurricane/floods would have disrupted the service and 2) that anything which was turned off, would have been to prevent fires (i.e., natural gas) or drinking contaminated water (I think I read that water flow, where it worked, was cut off because there were breaks, allowing contaminants in the piping)....

That's an incredible story. He should call in to CNN or FOX if he is successfull.

I doubt he will. I don't think you can get an approved flight plan to land on the levee, and I know that altitudes below 5000 feet are reserved for rescue choppers, etc.

He'd like to save both his father in law and his license.

I don't think anyone is going to make an effort to track him down after this is over given the circumstances, but I'm pretty sure you'll only hear an update from me. We'll see. I think it's pretty damn brave of him. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Anyone struck by the vision of the Middle-east and not southern US?

FROM WWL WEBLOG

Updates as they come in on Katrina

06:55 PM CDT on Thursday, September 1, 2005

Tom Planchet

6:54 P.M. WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., issued the following statement today in response to comments in the suburban Chicago Daily Herald by Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert, R-Ill. The paper reported Speaker Hastert as saying "It doesn't make sense" to rebuild New Orleans following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

Sen. Landrieu said:

"While I disagree strongly with Speaker Hastert's comments regarding the city of New Orleans, he raises a debate that we can address at some time in the future. Right now, however, we have important work to do. I encourage Speaker Hastert and our colleagues to focus time and attention today and tomorrow on providing Louisiana with the local, state and federal security resources necessary to support Governor Blanco's efforts to stabilize this very challenging situation.

"When we do discuss the long-term rebuilding of New Orleans and the parishes of St. Tammany, Plaquemines, St. Bernard and Jefferson, I will do everything I can to express that southeast Louisiana is filled with the most extraordinary of people and blessed with the most extraordinary of resources. Not only are they worth saving, but they are worth every penny of a complete rebuilding effort.

"I thank Speaker Hastert for his concern and look forward to speaking with him in person as soon as we are able."
