The New Orleans police chief says 15-thousand people are trapped in the city's convention center. And he says some are being raped and beaten.
Chief Eddie Compass says displaced tourists are "walking in that direction and they are getting preyed upon."
Compass said he sent eight eleven-man teams into the convention center. But as soon as the first team arrived, he said, "they were beaten back within 30 feet of the entrance."
Earlier, the city's mayor issued a "desperate SOS" on behalf of the thousands who are stranded at the convention center.
He also gave the go-ahead for them to march across a bridge to a dry area of the city and look for whatever relief they could find.
That doesn't explain the large numbers of people who were dropped off at the Superdome in cars on Monday. I don't remember exactly where I saw that, but it was reported here on FR before things got real bad in New Orleans.
> How are people on welfare supposed to evacuate on 40 hours notice
Well, I was talking about the tourists who didn't evacuate, but I get your point...
Don't worry, the rest of us knew exactly what you meant.
The POE' leece chief sent (8) 11 man teams in and the first
one was beaten back?
Beaten back...when the police have shotguns and riot gas?
And what did the other 80 police officers than do...just leave?
Affirmative action leos?...
Sew the wind...reap the whirlwind..
Note to self....Never leave home unarmed...
These have to about the dumbest savages I have ever seen. Even if these fools manage to steal the plasma, what signal do they plan on stealing to get any stations????
I just shake my head at this liberal and RAT experiment gone so wrong.
Didn't the mayor or was it the governor LET OUT THE PRISONS?
I thought I heard this.
Anyone hear that too?
All of this is absolutely unbelievable.
Na. I wouldn't. I'll just stick JOE'S up there!
:)
Treme is the area immediately to the north of the French Quarter. Alot of tourists have made the mistake of going past Rampart Street, only to RUN back to the Quarter.
They might have hostages. You never know. They might be holding up babies when the police come in. I've seen that kinda' thing on "COPS". Its the same societal drivel. They are liable to do that at the Super Dome, too, (if in fact they are raping, assaulting and shooting up in there as we speak).
I don't have to "spin" anything. It is plain as day. The lack of enough helicopters to help repair the breached levees (because so many in Iraq) says it all, doesn't it? One could add, of course, that there is a shortage of enough National Guard troops for the same reason. This is about as obvious as it gets.
Their whole infrastructure is down, no phones (cell or land lines), no electricity, most police cars under water, etc. They are running from place to place as they hear of problems.
the may send in Marshall Dillon to inact the Marshall Plan.
Marshall Dillon won't take no crap.
Why do you refer to him (and Elvis) as "the King" then?
See #169.
If the reports I saw earlier this afternoon are correct, the National Guard units in New Orleans weren't even given live ammunition until today.
It's sad. The tourists are told to go to the convention center and not knowing better, they go there. The stories will eventually come out. Especially it the foreigners that weren't killed at the convention center talk to the media in their home countries.
LOL! I don't think he'd appreciate it, either.....troublemaker. : )
>I guess what I'm trying to state is those buses should have been designated for those who had medical problems, women and children. Those should have been priority and the first ones out of the Super dome!<
Families won't split up.This is not the romanticism of Titanic this is real life dealing with its lowest common denominator.
