Shep showed a dead body along the freeway. How low can you go to grandstand? Things are bad in N.O., but he didn't have to show it.

Turn off the TV if you can't handle reality.
Actually, what am I saying? TV=reality? heh!
But you get my meaning. If don't want to deal with the reality of the situation, turn off the news.
Thanks!!!!!!!
Shep is in a very bad place right now. He's seeing the worst people can do to each other, he's seeing mom's with sick and dying kids etc.
Showig a body? Good, it's hell in NOLA and somebody has to point it out.
Why can't military helicopters fly food/water to those people?
Did you see it? It wasn't even recognizeable as a body let alone being able to recoginze if it were a man or woman. It looked like a lump of clothes 50' behind Shep Smith.
Bush declared a state of emergency on Saturday and mobilization began then and there. Trust me on this, the government is, and should be, involved.
That was not reporting, it was Shep's personal meltdown yesterday. Someone needs to get him off camera till he can get perspective on his reason for being there.
His words are a cancer being injected into a very sick body right now.
To the thread poster, I don't have a problem with the dead bodies being shown. As someone else said, the news is the news. We don't need to see them over and over and over and over but not to see the cost of this in lives is sanitizing the event.
What is all the fuss about showing a single dead body on TV for a few secs?
It is just a little piece of REALITY of thousands dead, rotting, decomposing human bodies that survivors have no choice but to face.
The rest of America should have a little fortitude.
When Shep comes on I channel surf to another News Channel.
Last night, Shep was trying to ask a police officer questions...the police officer wouldn't answer him...he just kept walking away.....and that's in front of a camera....
Imagine what people are being treated like with no cameras? (Not saying there's any abuse...)
Maybe Shep/Fox figured this is the only way to get help brought down to the people there...the people who are asking for direction/help, water/food....and being, literally, ignored about what to do.
Speaking of that incident, I wonder what the fate of the F-bomber turned out to be?
there's too many people not wanting to believe the horror down there..
You are absolutely right and no one has yet grasped the enormity of the situation in terms of how long the results are going to last. There are years of fallout from this still ahead. Perhaps it's time for some politicians of both parties to have to scramble to cope with the fact that huge disasters CAN happen here in our wonderful country. Shame on all of them regardless of party!
We have combat helicopters that could be used to drop food/water that are not being used.
The feds could be doing a lot more then they are.
Just to play devil's advocate - do you agree that coffins of soldiers should be aired, to show the reality of the situation in Iraq/Afghanistan?
As far as Shep, hey he is part of the MSM and would like the most trusted man of america in there dan rather?
Opinions were and remain divided on whether the MSM's not showing footage of WTC "jumpers" on 9/11 was proper. And so it goes ...

I normally don't like Shep, but I am a reporter myself and I found his reporting last night to be most impressive. When he is intereviewing people he is not acting plastic. His horror was genuine. It didn't feel at all scripted.
I think he should do more on scene reporting.
