G. Bush should shove those two out of the way and bring Jeb on over to take charge.

Blame the incompetent Governor -- she has the power to order Marshal Law -- the idiot mayor did not. She took her own sweet time to even ask for help from surrounding states.

A few questions to get things straight in my mind.

Is there or is there not martial law in NO? (or whatever the correct term is for LA)

If so, who gets the fed troops in? Does the Gov or the Mayor?

Can the President send them in if martial law has been declared or must he wait for the invitation?

And if martial law has been declared why are troops not there? (okay, that is a rhetorical question).

I can understand the logistical problems (getting them to the right places), but I would think the sight of them coming in, full "shoot on sight mode" might make a few people think twice.

The NG is doing it's job. By now the thugs know what they can and cannot get by with the NG and the local LE. But the additional presence of uniforms might have a psychological effect.

A little dramatic, I know, and probably not do-able (nowhere to land, overkill, whatever) but the sight of helicopters coming in with troops jumping out in full gear might sober up a few people.

New Orleans has become Mogadishu on the Gulf.

Missouri is sending National Guard units to NO. The damned military had better take over operations if I am sending family members into this effin mess.

Under no circumstances should the President get involved in using military assets in a law enforcement capacity. There is simply no good that can come of this from his perspective, particularly in light of all the incessant bleating you are now hearing from people who think he could have done more to prevent the chaos that is unfolding in New Orleans.

When it turns out that half of the bodies they recover from New Orleans are riddled with bullet holes, the last thing we need six months from now is to have Cindy Sheehan and Michael Moore calling for a war crimes tribunal for the U.S. military officers (and the President himself) who oversaw the "rescue" operation.

Oh sure, the president can take over
a state if the governer is incompetent
and/or lost control.

Remember the civil rights in the
late 50's & 60's? The prez sent
in the troops to take over.

New Orleans was transformed into worse than a third world nation when they emptied the prisons.

The people there should have left. It has turned into a true 'Hell on Earth'.

You cannot make workers go into there. It is partly of their own making.

I saw her early this a.m. in a presser....don't know if that was a clip from yesterday...or if it was live...I was getting ready for work....but, what she was saying was that she's mad about the looters (not exact words)....as if that was going to make them stop...she sounded and looked like a complete pouty idiot.

Shoot the looters, their lives are worth nothing compared to those who are not looting and need help.

I will start blaming BUSH if I don't see armed NG and NOPD hunting down and putting under these scumbag pariahs before the day is done.

Psssst. The President of the United States does not have authority over National Guard and local police departments.

See #71.

If there is any shooting to be done in New Orleans, let it be done by armed citizens and local law enforcement officials.
