PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Ernesta Drinker Ballard, a founding member of the National Organization for Women and horticulturist who helped build the Philadelphia Flower Show into a world-class event, has died. She was 85.
Ballard died of complications following a stroke on Aug. 11, her family said.
Heavily involved in feminist and civic causes, Ballard marched on Washington, lobbied for the Equal Rights Amendment, and raised money for female candidates.
She also was a founding member of the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, and was chairwoman of NARAL from 1989 to 1991.
Ballard closed a thriving horticultural business in 1964 to head the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and supervise its annual extravaganza, the Philadelphia Flower Show, expanding the organization from four employees to more than 100 staffers.
Oh well... good riddance.

There should be a "Who Cares?" heading where storiues like this can be posted to underscore their importance.
Beware of women with three names.

"Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name..."
What an amazingly astute thing to say. We need a report to ask everyone of these members if this is how they would like to die and or be disposed of after they die. Or would they want it for their now living children?
Very well might. I understand that in parts of Europe, funerals are no longer conducted. Dead bodies are simply disposed of, like yesterday's rubbish.
Stick a vacuum cleaner in the back of her skull. See if you get anything.
what? a house fall on her?

Her sister was pissed.
Where is her grave so I can go piss on it? Flame if you want, but I make no apologies.
What is very telling about this article that she is not survived by a loving husband or lots of children by her bedside. She had terminated all those possible relationships. Enough said.
