President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

We have family in Richland, just south of Jackson.

They are having to boil water, and had no power or phone since Monday evening. They are fine though. We are in touch by text messaging. The cell doesn't work, but tm does.
Wonder how that happens? ;-)

Do you have power? And phone?

I don't think we needed to know just how bad gas infrastructure is. What can we do to fix it?

Well the environmental wackos have seen to that situation and NOT ONE DAMN GOP leader including Bush has made this an issue
As far as the Dems forget it they are worthless BUT Bush should have been taking them on rather than trying to be Mr Nice Guy Compassionate Conservative

Did I hear him say he had a report of it? I take those reports of things with a grain of salt.

FNC: 3 murders and multiple rapes in the NOLA Civic Center shelter, mob rule after dark.
A lot of people are saying shoot to kill all looters, but if I were in New Orleans right now, I'd have gone to WalMart, gotten food, water, dry clothing, weapons and ammunition to take care of and protect my family, too.
It's not as if there are any alternatives.
I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but I'm already half-way through so I might as well go for it . . .
YES, I would even steal cash and jewelry. The alternative is being relocated for weeks/months with nothing. At the mercy of everyone else. My property is blown away, burned up, flooded out or stolen. My money is GONE because my bank is GONE. The only things that still exist are my debts because they are on a computer somewhere.
True, there are people who are stealing for profit . . . but who are they going to sell their stolen goods to? They can't take them out of the city. They can't plug in their stolen big screen TVs. NOBODY there has any money to buy the stuff.
Is anyone else reminded of the movie "Escape from New York"?

WWL

Updates as they come in on Katrina

02:18 PM CDT on Thursday, September 1, 2005

Tom Planchet

2:14 P.M. - Airport spokeswoman Michelle Duffourc: Armstrong International Airport did become operational on Tuesday, August 30 for humanitarian relief flights and civilian and military rescue efforts. Since opening the airfield, several of our commercial air carriers, including American, Southwest, Northwest, Continental, United, and Delta have all sent in aircraft with relief supplies and have taken out the stranded travelers as well as all others who wanted to depart the Airport. In total over 100 employees, 200 stranded passengers and 400 others were flown out of Armstrong International.

2:13 P.M. - Duffourc: The Airport has been on generator power since Monday, August 29 with the bare power necessities. CA One Services, our Food & Beverage Concessionaire has been providing meals to those stranded in the terminal.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has set up a triage center in the Airport's West Terminal near the Delta and Continental Ticket Counters and has been treating people that have been evacuated from the Superdome in Downtown New Orleans and other locations.

Terry Ebbert, head of the city's emergency operations...We can send massive amounts of aid to tsunami victims, but we can't bail out the city of New Orleans.

Tsunami victims weren't shooting at us you dumb SOB (except for one incident in Indonesia where the Marines came in to establish a landing zone, IIRC).

FOX correspondent Goldblatt was an eyewitness report of the Ak-47 wielding denizens. He wasn't making it up.

So what? One? Two? A whole posse riding around in Mad Max type dune buggies or maybe something from Waterworld?

Gimme a break. I saw a lot of footage of opportunistic looters. Not AK toting anarchists!
