President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

and the army corps of engineers would have p*ssed that 20 million away on studies and surveys like they did the 20 million that came before that. we have been dealing with them along the south shore of long island for decades now - they never plant a sprig of sand grass, rebuild a jetty, nothing. its all talk, year after year.

too many people reading free republic "scanner" reports.

Every scanner report I have put up over last 15 hours has been dead on. Chertoff stated almost word for word what we knew about the shot soldier last night during his presser today. This info is the real thing.

He didn't need to show the dead body with the dramatic overtones in his voice - the only damn thing that was missing was the ominous music.

I know he wants a Pulitzer or a Peabody, but damn.

Clinton grinning from ear to ear, joking with someone on the way out of the room.

As has been often said - bad to worse. Why, oh why, Mr. President do you keep propping up this, uh (_____________) - fill in the blank, if you wish. I can't w/o getting banned

No, they are upset because he's appointing 41 and 42 to raise private sector money.

And, of course, they're upset because he's sending in the NG to NO instead of to the border.

Level of water in NO has dropped about 2 feet.
Driving piles to isolate breech from the Lake.
Second breech..water flowing from breech back to Lake.
Things looking up ..except for the water already in the city.

MOST of the rumors are false. Building lockdowns are precautionary measures. Nobody I know sees roving bands attacking buildings in BR.

lost because a) he is East Indian in origin b) (some say) he didn't respond quickly enough to Blanco's attacks on him during the campaign

c) too light for the Democrats, too dark for the Republicans.

Pathetic.

Actually, I am talking about store in other parts of the country. Stores in the three effected states are understandable but it is bound to spread to other areas if the gas situation isn't fixed. The food arrives by trucks they may have a problem getting gas.
