President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

"A lot of pillaging taking place by the convention center"
And what if she is just to d*mn incompetent to mandate? What then? Do we watch this go on for weeks? Do we let her incompetence harm the people? There has to be away around her sorry excuse for gov.
shelters all over. Downtown River Center has one but I would sleep on the ground first. All Churches have them. Gonzales has a big one.
A lot of pillaging taking place in area of Convention Center . . . (this is a different place than SuperDome)
Still listening?
Senator Landrieu SHOULD have been screaming for law enforcement, Nat. Guard, Army, but all she can talk about is MONEY!!! Lots and lots of money for them to spend!
regarding numbers, now just heard 1,400 a day for next three days.
Yet another reason why the lawless need to be executed on site. Even the Catholic Church approves of the death penalty to protect society. I think this rises to the quality of "protecting society".
I heard a CNN report from there this morning...lots of dead people there.
Thank you. Good to know they are coming home to defend their homes.
"Ah...So it's the Congress fault..."
Speaking of which -- where HAVE the "usual suspects" been this past week? I'm talking about the ones that are attracted to cameras/microphones like moths to a flame.
It just dawned on me that I haven't seen Biden/Durbin/Kennedy et.al, and I've been watching Cable News Channels pretty much nonstop for days.
FLASH!!!
State Police Admin Net-
"Be Advised! A Lot of PILLAGING going on around the Superdome and Convention Center!!"
Fox in AM is pretty good, afternoon I've been going to CNN or MSNBC ... though I can't take Ron Reagan so go back to Cnn and check Fox periodically.
You have to be able to find out what's going on, what's gone wrong, where to avoid, and where your allies and enemies are, and you can't do that without radios.

Editor's Note: The only exemption has to do with nuclear materials (18 U.S.C. 831 (e)
These people are not armed and it is clearly stated that the reports coming in from other areas where there are those that ARE armed have hurt the chances of evacuation for all. UNBELIEVEABLE, I have no other words to describe what is happening there.
When was the last time the United States of America suffered pillaging? When the pirates used to come along the Atlantic Coast in the 1700's? How far have we fallen?

Tom Planchet
1:20 P.M. - (AP): South Carolina is sending 300 Army National Guard soldiers to Louisiana to help efforts to recover from Hurricane Katrina.
Guard spokesman Lieutenant Colonial Pete Brooks says officials have started assembling a military police company, a water purification company and a transport unit.
1:09 P.M. - (AP): The singer known for "Blueberry Hill" and "Ain't That A Shame" has been missing since Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans.
His agent says Fats Domino planned to ride out the storm at his house in a low-lying area of the city with his wife and daughter.
Al Embry says he spoke with Domino Sunday night by phone, but hasn't been able to contact him since. Embry says he would think Domino is safe because "somebody said he was on top of the balcony."
Domino is 77 and has rarely appeared in public in recent years.
