President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

God, I hope no one is in there.
I am suggesting no such thing. You can sit around and feel sorry for yourself or you can pull yourself up by your boots and go on. I realize, the best I can, what position they are in but sitting around looking at each other solves nothing. I have seen interviews on T.V. of folks who wonder where "their FEMA trailer" is and why water and food is not 'delivered' to their neighborhood (because they can't drive to the location it is being distributed as they have no car). We have become a nation filled with spoiled pampered people relying on someone else to take care of us. When that is not happening--get off your butt and walk for help--help out the next guy. Help me remember what happened during the Tusamsi--was it this bad--were they waiting and expecting someone to show up?
We went from Ari Fleischer to Scott McClellan...a precipitous fall.
Prayers for anybody that had stayed there.
Fire - Buste housing project. FNC
WWL-TV is reporting that it should pass through relatively quickly, but it has winds 35-40 mph and lightning striking water could be bad for anyone in it nearby.
Praying for you and all who must deal with this.
McClellan is a limp noodle.
"To: jeffers
thundersstorms coming in according to Shep"
;-)
is
OR
WAS?
God, have mercy.
Yeah...I was doing it haphazardly over the last month, but this has gotten my behind in gear...
Fire is in a "housing project" per Shep.
For what, iTunes? I'm listening to the scanner.
Reporterette: Correspondants are saying Baghdad is safer the New Orleans is the White House doing enough blah blah blah!
Scott: Operational questions should be directed to FEMA.
Reporterette: Why is the White House referring all questions to FEMA blah blah..
What a wench.
screams of help being heard
FNC: Screams for help can be heard coming from the building.
Now the thugs are hijacking boats. I have no sympathy for them.
Oh God, Shep reporting people ARE in that building and in the adjacent building screaming for help!
