President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

They happen 1, because of original sin; 2, because of the flood that Noah lived through. If you want to put it into a Christian perspective.
I was feeling pretty down last night about the lack of support we were seeing for the people in NO. Then I happened across a couple of people telling their story on Fox. One guy was a nut, but he commented something along the lines of making it because of his friend Jesus Christ. I know God is with these people, and He has made His presence known to them oh so clearly.
Cajungirl - many many many prayers are with you... Be SAFE!
Wow, sorry to hear that cajungirl. Please keep us updated!
I cannot read this thread but I don't know what is rumor and whast is fact. Can anyone tell me?
I heard downtown in lockdown, carjackings, people roaming. Is that true? I heard the campus is having problems with roamers.
Anyone know anything?
Maybe the 72 hour rule should be revisited. I was thinking maybe mandatory should mean mandatory or pick a different word to express why people should evac.
No, but I know the response of the members of the press in the White House Briefing Room will be very well-oiled.
Nobody could have envisioned one that's this big, true.
The biggest problem is that they're having to fight (either against damage or thugs) their way in from the outside.
Thanks for the update.
you still haven't heard from them in the Hattiesburg area?
On the scanner feed there is a woman giving birth, I believe at the dome, assistance has been asked for and they've been told there is no one who can assist.
Too bad no one ever harnessed that energy and resourcefulness to socially-acceptable ends. Sounds as if they'd do a better job than the elected officials.
Bump. Here's the live link.

Now industrial buildings in flames a few hundred yards from Shep near Superdome - just when it seemed like maybe things were coming under control in that area - now we have heat, flames & smoke ...
...with their deepest, darkest, evil imaginations running full tilt. They think like the criminals they are.
You're all heart. Maybe one day you'll be in a disaster and lose everything and somebody will offer you a job picking stringbeans...better start practicing :-)
I've had worse jobs than that when I was hungry. And yes, I have been in hurricanes and earthquakes.
What is your suggestion for getting these people on their feet? Just giving them a never-ending handout is not going to help them.
weapons not allowed on campus.
How do you listen to this feed? Media Player9 isn't loading it. Thanks.
