President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Tropical Storm 12
How did Shep get into NO? He arrived before the hurricane hit.
**You can put a repeater in an aircraft and make it fly tight left hand circles at 5000 feet to keep comms if it is necessary . You can also take over GMRS frequencies and use Line of sight commo if you have to. There are options out there, it's just that no one is inspiring them or looking to solve the problems. Thats a leadership issue.**
BINGO!!!
All it would have taken on DAY ONE to get this under control was to move the radios you have and communications to the top floor of a tall building, even if you had to hike it up.
I've done SAR+CD excersises since I was 14, and been involved in few tornado, storm events myself. This shows a COMPLETE lack of local leadership, and regional co-operation!
Thought I was the only person on this thread considering Shep to be in the way. Thank YOU!
No, you do not "rationalize and depersonalize"
Our Greatest Generation went to war over that.
I know I am frustrated some that tents and such have not been put up, at least. But, like I said, I don't know the logistics it takes to put this together.
I did see the trucks driving around today. And, there is video of the local police doing their best to control the hordes looting.
No No No you apparently have not heard the official MSM line, See the Local officials are mostly Liberal Democrats therefore this is all BUSH'S FAULT.
thanks, hows things?
I should have guessed it...first rule do no harm(broken rule)..how could they let these people go knowing what they would do? untenable ....I saw bunch of prisoners in orange jump suits on a freeeway ramp next to the water...
Hello,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during such a difficult and horrible time.
Bless you and yours, MOgirl
Tents where, and for what?

Terrible destruction in the area south of New Orleans
My family made it to Georgia.
Dept. of Corrections of GA is having hotels and motels at her specific exit call around for hurricane refugees.
They are being fed and taken care of. They even received a WalMart gift card. Not an enormous amount, but enough to get essential items or a board game for the children (or gasoline!). They are very appreciative and mentioned how nice the people are.
A woman staying in the same hotel was notified this morning that her entire family of five was found drowned in their home.
The men left this morning because they think they are going to survey their damage in Gulfport.
I think we have serious denial going on with the whole area, and when this is all over, the pain and suffering is going to be enormous and affect folks for at least two generations. I hate to bring up the Titanic yet again, but the denial is unmistakeable.
If the men get in, I will post a follow-up when they return.
Most amazing thing I've ever seen: The police shopping (five finger discount) at Wal-Mart in New Orleans on video. They had a basket for crap's sake. The reporter asked "what are you doing?" She said, "I'm doin' mah job." Reporter says, "what's your job?" She says, "lookin' fer looters." There were looters everywhere and the police were looting. I'm stunned.
Shade from the direct sun where these people are sitting on the highway waiting to be moved out. To protect them from the rain storms that are moving through periodically.

NASA Simulation of water in NO.
The left is in charge of this at the local state level but then you should know that.
I liked the video where the officer is pointing his rifle at a looter and the guy dumps arm loads of clothes and runs.
Good, thanks! How are you, FRiend?
Well, it makes more sense now how people got raped and how there are people going around with AK47's, shooting at cops. These inmates have nothing to lose.
You and I share the same opinion of Shep! :)
I was commenting on the pic of the looters with a TRUNKFUL of beer.......many reports & pics showing many looters have cars/trucks.
Also wondering why these looters didn't steal boats & help their own fam/friends/neighbors off of roofs.
