President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Looters have stolen the generators from Arcadia (business running the helos) jusr reported on Fox
FoxNews detailing abuse of first responders by thugs . . .
Aerial shot can see smoke rising from backside of dome ...
Probably let out the people there on minor infractions. Parish Prison is a jail, mostly, not a real long-term institute like Angola is. They did the same in Gulfport so they could lock up looters.
i HAVE PREFS set at 250 and still get only 20 due chronic crunch loads evidently LOL.
So, no need to start a new thread?
See #2655. I can think of a few things to add and one is prairiebreeze's suggestion to put medical, financial and contact information on a CD.
See link at 2655
thx
The Energy Bill just signed by President Bush contains half a billion dollars for coastal restoration funds for Louisiana alone. The Army Corps' much maligned levees keep New Orleans safe from spring flooding, and its planned $700 million, 72 mile Morganza-to-the-Gulf of Mexico levee might have held Katrina at bay, were it not at least a decade from completion.
If their "luck" had just held a bit longer, . . .
Not to say the local gov't couldn't have done more.
You know these aren't individual looters. These are gangmembers having a great time playing war.
Carswell AFB (now Carswell NAS in Ft. Worth) is another base where the housing sits mostly empty (unless something has changed recently).
Nope, no smoke, looked like it for a minute but it was not. Showing it now.
I don't think the header is a problem if you set prefs to 20 etc.
The whole page is no longer than 27kb or 28kb at 20 threads
Please see

Good point. I've seen so little of the coverage on tv I wasn't sure what this reporterette was really getting at.
i HAVE PREFS set at 250
250??
Try 20, works fine for me. And again, I am on dialup.
"Dialup users could set your prefs to 20 or so to display."
BRAVO!
People need to quit whining about long threads; learn how to configure your user preferences, now is a good time to start.
Starting a new thread over and over again accomplishes little except to fragment the discussion, a new thread will hit 100+ posts in just a few minutes, anyways.
Do I need to open that with a media player or something? Getting "HTTP404 Not Found" error.
Thanks for the help. :)
Something about thread header being too long for dial-ups. Can you cut it down?
Just trying to facilitate things being maximally helpful in this stressing situation. Much appreciate the hard work mods have to do in such trying times.
""Arkansas is considering using TWO military posts: Camp Robinson in North Little Rock and Fort Chaffee in Northwest Arkansas, Capt. Kristine Munn of the Arkansas National Guard said federal officials have asked the Guard to study the possibility of housing as many as 50,000 refugees at the two sites.
"We have not received anything official," Mumm said. "BUT we have been asked to look into that possibility"
At Fort Chaffee, the Guard has several WW11=era barracks, typically used during training, that could be used for refugee housing. Camp Robinson has some hotel-style accommodations that could also be used, Munn said.

Couldn't see any smoke in later shot . . . hopefully it's out . . .
