President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

"Pull up a map of LA and draw a straight line between Grand Isle and Venice. That is just about the new course of the Mississippi River. There is not much left of southern LA."

Huh? That description yields a straight line running east and west from Grand Isle to Venice. Were you trying to describe a north / south line midway between Grand Isle and Venice?

And Shep was WRONG! There are military all over picking up survivors in large trucks, coast guard in boats, and helicopters rescuing people and he says the feds are not on the scene. Give me a break! He is grandstanding no matter what anyone says IMHO. Sick and tired of lies out of him and other members of the MSM press.

WWL has been showing pictures of all the Federal agencies helping -- shame Fox and others don't do the same, but that doesn't suit their agenda IMHO.

The problem is there were many shipping containers full of chickens thrown inland from one of the ports and some of the smell might be from that...I hope.

Cooper did say they'd found 6 bodies today (he said it as if his film crew had "found" them on their own) so I think it's clear the networks are in fact deliberately not showing bodies.

**I just think that a bit of decisive and competent local leadership and some elbow grease, as opposed to hand-wringing and buck-passing, might have saved some lives.***

As I've stated before, i believe the Mayor engaged in a massive amount of LAWSUIT AVOIDANCE, and now is completely over-whelmed by events.

The Governor sounds like she is finally growing some stones, but it's about 96 hours too late...

I think when this thing is finally analyzed over the next months and years, it is going to be a case study for municipalities of how NOT to do things...

I could be wrong but I believe that photo at 248 IS the Desire Project.

I am beginning to be suspicious of an agenda since I heard Krauthammer whining that the President didn't immediately go on TV and head to Washington.

Since there are logistics involved in moving the President, I think he moved fairly quickly. I am sure Krauthammer knows this as well.

The president needs to find a domestic Patton to send down there and knock some local and state officials upside the head. I don't know why the fed troops aren't in there already, but I have a feeling it has to do with local ineptitude. These people, esp in NO, need help and their elected local leaders are clearly not up to the challenge. Soon, if not already, Bush will be blamed not just by leftist whackos but by the regular joe watching the MSM. I pray that he'll get out in front of this and act boldly and, if necessary, override some of the laws preventing federal involvement in state affairs.

So Clinton did a lot for the levee system in New Orleans, did he?

Wonder why he didn't mention that here?

"Sick and tired of lies out of him"

Earlier today he pointed out a National Guard dumptruck bringing a whole truckload of bottled water onto the overpass. Then he closed his piece tonight by saying there has been no water on the overpass for days. I don't know if he's lying or delusional, but he sure as heck isn't reporting the truth.
