President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Sorry. that front page was beyond, damn, judged a book by it's cover.

There are going to be a lot of folks of a lot of different tastes that want to hear news unfiltered. Scanners are popular on both sides.

Have you been listening to another scanner source that gave the same details?

I don't know whether it is a hoax. All I know is that it's hosted by btnaccess, which "designs, builds and manages IP communications worldwide and operates a global MPLS network", according to its website.

We'll find out in the morning. If the reports of a soldier being shot are true, we'll hear about it in the MSM.

So are you withdrawing your contention that it was a hoax? I don't know this techie stuff, so I want to make sure I understand what you're saying. Thanks very kindly.

Okay - I haven't heard the scanner or know enough if this is a hoax or not.

What I find interesting (especialy in some of the other threads) is our not wanting to believe all of the bad stuff we are hearing.

Thousands dead? No way, unconfirmed rumors.

Soldier shot? No way, must be a hoax.

Hospital raided for drugs? No way - it's a hospital for goodness sake.

If it was only reported on FR that NO was 80% under water and that gas was $6/gal. in Atlanta - I'm sure we would all be going "no way".

This whole thing is so far beyond our usual reality (at least for most of us) - that I think the "no way - this only happens in movies" is the first reaction for many of us.

And even when we KNOW that 80% of NO is underwater/gone and we KNOW lots of the coast of Miss. is gone - we still can't believe that 1000's are dead or a soldier got shot. Actually - I think it's sort of like Mulder's poster only it's "I DON'T WANT TO BELIEVE".

And I hope that this is a hoax (and the hoaxers get what the looters are supposed to get - 3 to 10 years in jail). But, we know a lot of bad stuff is happening down south. PRAYERS FOR ALL THE PEOPLE AFFECTED.

it is as bad as being reported and worse then I think anyone wants to stomach. the toll could be in the 10,000 range...

I hope not but I think it is a realistic posibility.

I've been listening to the national guard freq, another has been listening to the state patrol freq, both had basically the same info.

A national guardsman was shot in the upper leg and is getting medical assistance, the perp was captured though there seems to be some question as to if the perp was captured alive or dead after fleeing into the locker rooms.

Take it for what you will.

In your repsonse, contemptible and dishonest accusations with typical DU invective are evident. Still, setting that aside, the issue is whether or not allowing some group to steal a bus and drive it to Houston is helpful for New Orleans. It is not, though it is beyond some to understand why.

Thousands dead? No way, unconfirmed rumors.

Well.....The NO Mayor (who I was first defending) I now consider a unprepared guy who hasnt slept much so I think that the word "thousands" is being thrown around too losely and if he had the chance to say it again he would word it differently. Lots of people have died but thousands is a bit much.

well... Whatever this Shoutcast (not teamspeak, like the other one) is, it is NOT local New Orleans PD...

I'm thinking this is the command net, admin chatter between 4 different HQ.s that I have identified so far...
