President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I don't mind sending money there, but I hope someone other than this mayor or governor or Landrieu controls the funds.
It was my distinct impression that that information was not being relayed by the guards at the gate.
** maybe FEMA could build a bunch of apartment buildings in a month or so to house refugees?***
With Government Contracting Rules??
It will take that long just to fill out the Bid Sheet!
WDSU: Reporter in downtown New Orleans reports no gunshots heard tonight -- compares to last night, when he heard many gunshots. Reports the city is "unfit for habitation".
Glad you got through.
The oddest thing was happening on my cell phone today. I kept trying to make calls and got different numbers from what I was dialing. I looked at the outgoing log and I was dialing the right numbeers. I called home three times in a row and got other houses.
Is that weird or what.
I agree, Types, without a blink.
Yeah, has to be someone from DU. Most everyone here has at least READ the constitution.
You lost me here. You're not just "speaking bluntly" you're thinking bluntly.
good post
Yes, I really wasn't speaking about her capabilities, just the fact that she is allowed to shed tears, as the NY and Washington DC male leaders did at 9/11.
I think by now most people realize women are capable of leadership positions. Maybe not all women are, just as all men are not capable.
For instance, if Condi ran for a governor's position in the future, she would have no problem winning the election. There are other capable women out there who would perform well also. But there are fewer examples to point to-- since for decades those roles were limited to men only.
I guess we can agree to disagree :)
What happened?
Forgot about the vote of the owners -- Jerry Jones would be unlikely to give the go ahead on Benson moving to SA. That part slipped my mind!
OK Now I know you are full of it."
The Bridge they were sitting on was surrounded by water and the folks walking to Shep where walking out of the water and doing it on the road he was on, if the Salvation Army was set up under the bridge he was on they must have been using their new Submersible unit. BTW just read they stopped allowing folks into the Super dome Yesterday so I suppose Shep was supposed to send them up there to be turned away.
I think you are flailing trying to find some rational for your Shep Hating.
My sister in law finally got out of the city via River Rd to Huey P Long bridge and is with her daughter in Boston. When we spoke a little earlier this evening I asked her where on Earth they got Blanco and Nagin. "Oh, I'm so glad you noticed how bad they are," she said. I have been stunned since before the hurricane hit that these two could get elected dog catcher much less mayor and Gov. But then I'm in the suburbs of Detroit and have little to crow about with Kwamee and Gennifer.
Your observation/post about the Columbia flaming as it passed over you comes to my mind every time I think about the shuttle, for years now.
I am sure there are armed guard, military & police officers in Louisiana. Are there any in Texas?
They must have had damage of some kind at the switch- maybe in the software? I worked cust svc for a cell co a looong time ago and we had that problem after we changed to a new switch. I know it's a translation problem, but I am not quite sure what causes it. (I wasn't a tech- just the poor woman people YELLED at!)
I hope that a less cloudy "after" is available soon. Much of the area of interest is under the cloud cover.
Video on CNN did show some Texas police in the Astrodome parking lot. We have to assume that the cops in Texas are appropriately armed.
