President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.

Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

I would hate to be a poor shop owner in New Orleans.

My thoughts are similar....There has been so much moaning about people not evacuating before the storm, but after this why would any shop owner or owner of any valuable property feel it would be safe if left in the hands of a democrat run city or state when a mandatory evac order is given.

This will only make those type of people more willing to stay behind and protect "what is theirs" and who could blame them in a dem state.

I think someone should save these video's and make congress watch them... it's time to stop the FDR entitlements and get people working and standing on their own two feet.

Wow. With a cat 5, NO or a place a tad north, would have been beach front. They might as well dissolve Plaquamines (sp) Parish. Not much is left of it.

I tell ya, I'd hate to be unemployed and lookin for work anywhere near Louisiana or MS. The competition just got intense. Many of the people that evacuated before Katrina hit won't be going back and are moving to your town to find work and live.

Jefferson Parrish official said that between 200,000 and 300,000 of the 500,000 parish population was still there when the storm hit.

Yet only ?50K? made it to the Superdome.

Are we seeing 150K people still roaming the city?

Or did the potential death toll just get way more awful.?.?

I have to question his figures.

I saw that; very disheartening.

And the press laps this up.

From an LSU friend:

The two parishes south of New Orleans seem to be submerged. He hasn't gotten any hard data on the southernmost parish by the Mississippi border, which he deems ominous.

Communications by land phone and cell phone are out because most to almost all of the 504 Area Code system is down. He says it is like being nuked.

You never will.
Might make the military look good to the MSM.

As I am typing this I hear lots of aircraft going overhead.
Big planes C130 leaving Dyess and going southeast.

Am getting all this info in email but yet we hear NOTHING about what the military is doing from the MSM. I want to take all of these and shove them in Aaron Brown's face not to mention the Governor and Mayor's faces.

I don't have TV. Are you telling me that NONE of the military's hard work is being shown? All those ships, aircraft, people power, etc.?

How is it that people could be at the astrodome, if they weren't bussed there from the superdome? Can you clarify? And how could they turn anybody away?

HEADS UP...

CNN has gained some access to the Astro Dome - they are interviewing the first bus load of refugees to get to the Houston dome. They will be airing these tonight and into tomorrow.

CNN once again is staying on the air live tonight.
