President Bush: "We are dealing with one of the worst national disasters in our nation's history." Push has appropriated vast federal resources to assist with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
78,000 people are currently in shelters. New Orleans evacuation continues. 10,000 additional National Guard troops have been called to service.
Hospitals are running low on supplies, and public health concerns include water borne disease, poor sanitation, food and drinking water contamination and shortages, mosquitoes, carbon monixide poisoning from electricity generators, lack of childcare, and the special needs of the elderly.

Tropical Storm 12
Sigh. I've had the same thought too.
We have to maintain our presence in Iraq and get that country stabilized.
Now our soldiers with family in the area have to worry about this disaster.
Everyone remember, we're Americans, and we have resolve. We will see this through!
Well, at least the giraffes are keeping their heads above water!
What kind of vermin would do these things? I can't imagine that happening in MN.
LOL!!! I was with a group of band kids so I saw it all sober on that trip!
I wonder how many actual looters and thugs are in there. Are we seeing a couple of hundred or a thousand or eighty six?
LOL! Good point.
Bumping your idea again, John. Time is critical.
I am thinking about loading up my dually and a 30 foot trailer with some bottled water pallets and taking it down there and just dropping it off wherever directed near Ocean Springs-Biloxi-Gulfport or futher west if possible.
Do any of ya'll have any thoughts or have communication with anyone who would have an idea as to local logistics below Hattiesburg or Lucedale....I can fuel way north with a 500 mile range in tank.
please ping the list
And that is NOT George W. Bush's fault.
Did you notice that the guy said he couldn't say enough good stuff about the military -- and Aaron stayed quiet?
Today some people were saying that the police had grouped together in little areas around the city, patroling on their own because they were getting NO communications from above.
Watching a vid on wwltv.
Seems like a major railroad bridge, somewhere around Bay St. Louis is a total wipeout.
Big LONG bridge.
That is REALLY gonna hurt.
Man I thought he was mentioned in the same breath.
The whole city government has moved to Baton Rouge! Rats deserting the sinking ship!!
Have all the reporters left NO now that night has fallen??
Have things gotten bad again?
I think they are talking more than 80... they are described as bands of roaming gangs with AK47's who have been methodically working their way around the city... even comandeered a mail truck for their raids.
Was that the guy that Aaron tried to interrupt - then couldn't wait to finish the segment fast enough?
Yes, donations, man/woman power, & tax $$$.
Yes, about five minutes ago.
