Household debt isn't the big number. The annual interest payment on household debt is more important. IIRC, mortgage rates in 1980 were around 11%...and housing was therefore not too affordable. I have friends in CA who used to bitch endlessly about morgage payments back in the 80's. I haven't heard that complaint in a long time.

Here in Connecticut, gas prices have been as high as most quoted here for months.
The public reaction counts more than the price.
Panic reports sound so scripted by Al-Jazeerah & friends, facilitated through the liberal "omg" American media, probably verbatim.
That doesn't mean you shouldn't stock up on the really important things.

It is my understanding that demand for housing has gone up substantially over the past couple of days. Good point, but something tells me these people won't be visting any real estate agents in Miami Beach, San Francisco, or Malibu when they get their claim checks.

My girlfriend and I are going to car pool in order to reduce our fuel cost, and cut back on eating out. Buy a bicycle.
And not one of those wussie carbonfiber Lance/POTUS-wannabe bikes.... but a GIANT touring/commuter

Did they have one of these plaquards?
If so, they were carrying gasoline.

And the economy will be suffering for it. Just think business are now going to have to spend a lot more money to ship items on trucks. That means higher prices for consumers, and that means less profit. I would not mock it if I were you..

Just saw on John Gibson's show $5.00 in Atlanta! The media is driving the price up with their shortage panic scenario!

So congestion is caused by too many people driving? Or is it caused by refusing to reinvest and invest in more roads?

Girlfriend just called me from Keensaw. Some gas stations are shut down, and one she found that was open had a line of cars to get into it. I told her to find another station preferably by my neighborhood.
