President Bush to address the nation on Hurricane Katrina...has flown by the damage on Air Force One on way back to D.C.
I emailed he and Karl Rove at 7am this morning, and I'm SO grateful he did what was SO vitally necessary.
I'm going to read the thread .. and watch the replays. Chertoff is on CSPAN-2 now, talking about the efforts being undertaken.
Is the levee repair a lost cause?
It wasn't a "speech". It wasn't meant to be a "speech". I liked it. It was what I was looking for from him at this time in that setting.
Delivery? Spark? Good Grief. He "looked and sounded exhausted"? What if he truly was those things? What was he supposed to do then? Go hide and refuse to appear until he felt all rested and perky?
Others have given you a pass, the benefit of the doubt and all that. I don't. You're as off base as you can get, as inappropriate in your ivory tower, distant critiques as possible, in my book.
And that goes for the people you say were "far from impressed" with the "speech" (which was not a "speech").
Please check your attributions. I think you meant tomkat. :-)
OH, yeah. NIMBY plus furrow-browed doomcasting about black beaches, funeral pyres of dead sea birds -- you know, the usual Exxon Valdez times 37 kind of scare-hype that the MSM just laps up and serves hot to the mind-numbed public.
Oh, and lest I forget, there are those multi-million-dollar properties that overlook the coastline. Can't have the rich and (in)famous getting an eyeful of an oil rig out there. Why, they might have a fatal conniption, pop a nut, or blow out a sphincter bearing -- or all three. Oh, the HORROR!
Delivery? Spark? Good Grief. He "looked and sounded exhausted"? What if he truly was those things? What was he supposed to do then? Go hide and refuse to appear until he felt all rested and perky? --- saying that he looked exhausted was an observation, not a criticism. He is weary of the damn media.
as inappropriate in your ivory tower --- such a nice ivory tower.
;-)
Oh, the images that come to mind (the face that must go along with a blown sphincter, on... let me think.. Brad Pitt, or Tom Cruise, or Jennifer Aniston, or....)
Yes. This was the perfect time and setting for him to mumble and misspeak.
I'm sorry, but I'm an old man and I call a turd a turd.
Call anything you want anything you want, old or young, doesn't make it so. An opinion is just an opinion and has no magical powers. Sorry.
Thank you for the pic. Like someone else here already said.......I'D HATE TO BE PRESIDENT. Imagine looking out that window if YOU were President. So many folks homeless, so many folks not knowing if their loved ones are among those floating on the waters dead, so much to do, and all of the other nightmare issues that go along with those listed above. And meanwhile you can't forget our beloved Troops in the Middle East, the Nutcase in North Korea, on and on it goes. No! No way on earth I'd wanna be in his shoes just now. Prayers for him.
"Even the panel on Brit Hume"
No kidding!! Talk about out of touch. Nina was actually imploring those of us (as in NOT her) to take these families in.
Good grief!!!
And she probably has more money than many of us put together- well, more than many of me put together.
I've had strong remembrances of searching through the night for relatives we could not find after a tornado..My heart goes out to all those who have not heard from or about their relatives..Lack of ability to connect by phone is terrible..
My family was taking shelter with another person who had a roof to his apartment...but there was no way to call and tell us they were OK. All we found after hours of searching was their heavily damaged apartment, our cousin's house with the entire back of the house, roof, and a 3 car garage totally missing ...gone with the wind. They all chose the right bathroom to survive in..
I hope you can find news soon.
I'm not sure what confidence or inspiration have to do with the matter at hand. We are in the middle of a tragedy with untold deaths and people still at risk. From people, to property to the national economy...the scope of this has yet to be measured. I think the President had it exactly right today. Once he gets his arms around the numbers and the damage we face I expect he will inspire and lead us appropriately.
So many families separated in this and the not knowing.
Thanks for sharing your experience along with the empathy that came with it.
AMEN! and BRAVO!!!!
I'm hoping this lasts past 9/15 (would seem it to need to) then keeps getting extended until we can do away with all those stupid cafe standards.
It will give the DIMS, environmental wackos, and the left wing nuts something else to scream about, but can't Pres Bush rescind Jimmah's EO?
