Rising gas prices and ongoing bloodshed in Iraq continue to take their toll on President Bush, whose standing with the public has sunk to an all-time low, according to the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The survey found Bush's job approval rating at 45 percent, down seven points since January and the lowest ever recorded for the president in Post-ABC surveys. Fifty-three percent disapproved of the job Bush is doing.

My conservative credentials are well known on FR, having been built since 1999. You're hallucinating.

To be perfectly fair, he really earned it.

I agree. "W" is tanking just like his ol' man and for the same reasons. PR IS a part of being president and a duty of leadership. If anything, a president owes it to his supporters to "spend his political capital" wisely. "W" either has a horde of pennies, or is broke.

I would like to add to what I said earlier. I actually think this poll is liberally biased, like the recent ABC one that had 10% more democrats. The recent Rasmussen Poll, which was the most correct in 2004, shows things much better for Bush.

However, perception can become reality if you let it. Bush is letting it happen because he is a good man. But these leftists get out of bed (or drug den, or futon,...) in the morning with full intent to take America down everyday.

Things can turn around, but Dubya needs to not create the impression he is out of touch. His political capital from the 2004 election has been spent, with very little to show for it.

I'm afraid it's hereditary. "W"'s daddy was the same way. Ronald Reagan was not.

The Great Old New England Families of Joseph P. Kennedy and Herbert Walker Bush need to leave America alone. They've done enough damage for one Century.

I agree that President Bush does not stay on top of the PR game --Republicans in general are bad at this-- but there is one big difference between President Bush and his father: he was reelected.

As far as this poll goes has there not been polls all August saying his approval rating was at 40%?

No party breakdown, no registered/likely voters, over a weekend, over the phone. Plus or minus 3 points.

Take about 5 points off the disapproval rating and and put them over to the approval rating and it's likely more correct

"W" was born in New Haven, CT, "GHWB" was born in Milton, MA. They're about as "Texan" as Kerry is "Irish".

From the Washington Compost. What do you expect? They poll mostly from the DC area where John Francois had 90% of the vote. When I see polls like this it always confirms the fact to me that I made a good decision not to subscribe to this bird cage liner rag.

No he doesn't, but It's still part of the job of being president, whether we like it or not.

but there is one big difference between President Bush and his father: he was reelected.

Only because "W" did not have any campaign competition from a popular third party candidate like Ross Perot, with an issue like immigration. Face it. "W" squeaked by in '04. We all know it. This means that we will loose congress in '06 and the White House on '08. Unless "W" pulls his head out.

I am a conservative Republican, not a "Bushie"!

"Get informed, get real, or move to France. "

We don't have to move to France. France has come to us.

OK by your logic then his father only crashed because of Ross Perot and so with no Ross Perot he would not have crashed at all. It's all very confusing isn't it?

The 2004 election was closer than we would all have liked but President Bush did get the most votes in history despite an all out effort by the MSM to bring him down. All and all not too bad. Oh and by the way: I respect and admire President Bush but I also criticize him when I feel he needs it. If you want to call me a "Bushie", fine with me I don't care. I won't run from my president when times are tough.

I agree with you. President Bush and most all Republicans for that matter, aren't as good as Democrats at PR Spinning. For years, folks here have grumbled at how Republicans let lies about them go unanswered, unchallenged. Little lies, whoppers, if Republicans don't identify them as lies, those lies quickly become accepted as fact. Example:

When Al Gore said "Republicans starve babies, kill old folks, poison the air and water", no Republican official or organization responded. Democrats still get mileage out of those ridiculous accusations, because our guys didn't shoot them down.

But let's get real. Democrats get more mileage out of their lies than we ever get out of responding to them, because of the media.

Media generated polls echo Democrat lies, benefiting guess who? So whenever I criticize Bush for poor PR skills, I put all that into the equation.

But all that aside:
